Superior Hiking Trail Bring Fido to hike the pet-friendly Superior Hiking Trail in Two Harbors, MN. Sprawling over 310 miles across northeastern Minnesota, this popular thru-hike hugs the shoreline of Lake Superior for most of the length. The trail can be accessed from car parks located every five to ten miles, so you don’t have to hike the whole thing if you haven’t got the time. Grand Portage State Park Grand Portage State Park in Grand Portage, MN is pet friendly. The main attraction of the park is High Falls, the largest waterfall in Minnesota. A boardwalk will lead you and your pooch to a great view of the water cascading over the rocks. The park lies within the Grand Portage Indian Reservation, is bordered by Canada on the north and east, and is just one mile from Lake Superior. You are welcome to bring your dog with you to enjoy the four miles of trails around the rest of the park, as long as they are on a leash under six feet. Nicollet Island Park Located just off of Historic Main Street in Minneapolis, MN, the dog-friendly Nicollet Island Park contains a promenade with a view of the first dam on the Mississippi. Fido is welcome to explore the park's paths, garden and picnic area. Dogs are not allowed inside the Nicollet Island Pavilion. Dogs must be on a leash during their visit to Nicollet Island Park. Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Rochert, MN is pet friendly. Sandwiched between prairie and hardwood forest, you and Fido can explore 9 miles of pet-friendly trails, including the Beaver Pond Trail and the Prairie Hill Trail. The trails, some of which are interpretive, will lead you along five lakes, through woods, and around prairies. The paved bike trail loop is a more relaxed way to view the area. See Details
Zippel Bay State Park Fido is welcome at Zippel Bay State Park, a dog-friendly recreational area in Williams, MN. The park is located on Lake of the Woods, one of the largest lakes in the world! Old Mill State Park Old Mill State Park in Argyle, MN is pet friendly. Stepping foot into this park will make you feel like you've stepped into the past when you see all the landmarks! Jump on the seven miles of trails around the park and check out the log cabin and steam-powered flour mill from the 19th century. Wildlife lovers should keep their eyes peeled for deer, beaver and ruffed grouse near the meandering Middle River. Dogs are welcome on a leash, as long as all mess is cleaned up after them. Crow Wing State Park/Forest Crow Wing State Park in Brainerd, MN, is made up of prairie, pine, and hardwood forests and is easily explored via 18 miles of dog-friendly trails. Paths lead to Old Crow Wing townsite, along the Mississippi River, and through the wooded areas. For an easier trek, there's a 10-mile paved bike trail at this location as well. Gitchi Gami State Trail Gitchi Gami State Trail is a dog-friendly 89-mile paved route between Two Harbors and Grand Marais in Minnesota. Snaking alongside Lake Superior's beautiful and historic North Shore, the trail is being completed in several short segments and is already proving popular with both cyclist and hikers. The longest section to be developed extends 17.6 miles from Gooseberry Falls State Park to Silver Bay and leads hikers through both urban and natural environments. The trail begins at Gooseberry Falls State Park and continues northeast through Iona’s Beach Scientific and Natural Area and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park before entering Beaver Bay and Silver Bay. This segment offers breathtaking views of the park’s multiple waterfalls, and an expansive vista of the Lake Superior shoreline. Hikers should be mindful of steep hills and curves along this stretch, but there are numerous rest stops along the way for you and Fido. See Details
