Pet Friendly New River Gorge National Park & Preserve
New River Gorge National Park & Preserve New River Gorge National Park & Preserve in Glen Jean, WV, is pet friendly. Dogs are allowed on the trails that wind around the banks of the river which passes through rocks, rock outcrops, trails and coal mines. In the gorge, there is typically a 1,000-foot difference in elevation between the river bottom and the adjacent plateau. The park is 70,000 acres, ideal for hiking, rock climbing and rafting on a whitewater river. Take Fido along the 2.4-mile Endless Wall Trail which passes through rich forest, crosses Fern Creek, then zig-zags along the cliff edge until reaching the overlook at Diamond Point. See Details
Pet Friendly Blackwater Falls State Park
Blackwater Falls State Park Located in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County in Davis, WV, Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the amber waters of Blackwater Falls, a 57-foot cascade tinted by the tannic acid of fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls, along with a few of the park’s other features like Elakala Falls, Lindy Point and Pendleton Point Overlook, are some of the state’s most photographed spots. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views year-round by taking steps to the falls or using viewing platforms. The park has 20 miles of pet-friendly hiking trails, and leashed dogs are allowed. See Details
Babcock State Park Leashed dogs can join their owners at the pet-friendly Babcock State Park in Clifftop, WV. You and your pooch can explore the old Grist Mill that the park is famous for before embarking on one of the many hiking trails. For the most spectacular views in the park, take the two-mile, moderately complex Skyline trail, which follows along the steep cliffside. Tomlinson Run State Park Tomlinson Run State Park offers more than 1300 acres of outdoor recreation in New Cumberland, WV. The area boasts fishing, hiking, camping and other activities. Endless Wall Trail Endless Wall Trail is pet-friendly. This 2.5-mile moderate trail in New River Gorge passes through rich forest, crosses Fern Creek, then zig-zags along the cliff edge to incredible views of the New River, which meanders 1000 feet below. The area is popular among rock climbers, hikers and dog walkers alike. History buffs will be interested to learn that this spot was once home to Nuttallburg Mine — the largest mine in the New River Coalfields in the late 1800s. The trail is lightly trafficked and is a moderately difficult hike. if you continue along past the waterfall you'll see more beautiful falls and rock cliffs. Audra State Park Dog-friendly Audra State Park in Buckhannon, WV, is an ideal spot for families who enjoy outdoor recreation. This riverfront park offers picnicking, hiking opportunities, direct access to Middle Fork River, and tent & RV camping sites. Alum Creek and Cave Trail is an easy 2.7 mile nature trail which provides water access, scenic river views, photo opportunities, and wildlife viewing. Audra State Park’s 67 campsites are open April through mid-October. A campground store is stocked with camping supplies, snacks and souvenirs, bagged ice and firewood. See Details
