Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort is guaranteed to be a barrel of laughs for four-legged visitors. The Bluegrass State’s top dog-friendly attraction is situated along Kentucky’s famous Bourbon Trail. The distillery offers a variety of tours, ranging from a ghost tour of the paranormal areas featured on "Ghost Hunters" to The Trace Tour, which gives visitors a peek inside the company’s aging warehouses and bottling rooms. All tours end in the expansive tasting room, where you can sample some of Buffalo Trace’s award-winning products, such as Eagle Rare and Blanton’s Single Barrel. Dogs are welcome on the tour, as well as in the tasting room and gift shop.

Located a short drive from the distillery, this Bourbon Trail hideaway has everything you need for a relaxing private tasting after hours. Pour a dram of fine whiskey and a refreshing bowl of water for your drinking partner, and enjoy views of the Kentucky River from the deck together.

Located at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers, Paducah, KY, is a favorite destination for outdoor adventurers on two legs and four. Campers at Duck Creek RV Park, the most dog-friendly campground in the state, have easy access to all the pet-friendly activities at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area like hiking, fishing, boating, an 1850s working farm, and even a drive through the Elk and Bison Prairie. Fido can also enjoy running off-leash at the campground’s fenced dog park. After a day full of activities in nature, you can give him a bath at the on-site dog wash. Dogs of any size are permitted for no additional fee.

On your next visit to Lexington, stop at Masterson Station Dog Park, the best dog park in the state, and let loose with the local Labrador population. This 15-acre grassy park is divided into two separate paddocks, with shady spots sprinkled throughout each, water fountains, a fire hydrant and lots of space for dogs to play fetch and socialize. Visiting humans can chill on benches and chat to regulars about breed meetups, fundraisers for canine charities, and other events hosted at the park. Afterward, walk on the paved trails that weave around the rest of Masterson Station Park.

Searching for the top trail to hike with your dog in The Bluegrass State? March with your mutt on the Auxier Ridge Trail in Daniel Boone National Forest, which will take you along a high, narrow ridge between sheer cliffs. You’ll have a chance to glimpse some of Kentucky’s most unique rock formations like Haystack Rock, Courthouse Rock, and Raven Rock. Auxier Ridge Trail is just under 4.5 miles out and back and is rated moderate. If you want to extend the hike and see another natural landmark, a trail spur leads to a rock formation known as Double Arch.
