Beachside Restaurants That Welcome Dogs

Posted by Lauren Barker

The only thing better than an ocean view over a delicious meal and cold drinks on your vacation is having your furry beach bum there to enjoy it with you. Take Fido to these beachside eateries to enjoy the sound of the waves at breakfast, warm sunshine with a cool sea breeze at lunch, and stunning sunsets over the water at dinner.

Fresh-caught seafood, oysters, and gumbo are just a few of the delicious menu items that will have you hooked on Hook’d Pier Bar & Grill. This beachfront eatery located at the Panama City Beach pier and entrance to Pier Park allows sandy paws at the umbrella tables on their deck overlooking the gulf. Fido will receive a bowl of water and Milk Bone treats and humans can enjoy weekly happy hour specials on drinks and appetizers. Afterwards, head across the pier to the Dog Beach at Pier Park where leashed pups can play in the clear blue water and white sands PCB is known for.

Once your pup is tuckered out, walk back to this beachside townhome with a covered porch overlooking the coastline. With beach access and kayaks available for guest use, it’s easy to take your doggie paddler out for an evening adventure on the ocean.

Furry beach bums are welcome at Woody’s Breakfast and Burgers during the Pacific Beach Boardwalk’s dog-hours, which means your pooch can join you for breakfast or dinner. Grab a table or barstool overlooking the ocean and order scrambles, sandos, or burritos to get your day started, or a salad, burger, or tacos to close it out. Bowls of water will be provided, but be sure to order an extra sausage patty for Fido. Dinner “pawtrons” will be treated to a beautiful sunset over the Pacific.

Afterwards, take your pooch for a walk along the beach or boardwalk, then back to this oceanfront beach house with large windows and an outdoor patio overlooking the water.

Listen to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore while you dine with Fido at Harpoons on the Bay in Cape May. Overlooking the Delaware Bay, this beachside restaurant allows leashed pups on the dog deck, in the sand pit, and at the tiki bar patio. Harpoons is open for lunch and dinner, but dinner-sized entrees are served anytime, as well as signature sandwiches, burgers, and beachfront favorites like coconut shrimp. Wash it all down with one of the 250 frozen drinks to choose from, or if you’re feeling adventurous, a rum bucket. And don’t miss out on the weekly happy hour specials. In addition to welcoming four-legged patrons to dine, the restaurant also hosts animal rescue fundraisers.

Continue admiring the beautiful bay views from this sunset beach house, just a block away. Take in the sunset over the water from the large deck, or snuggle with your pup around the firepit.

After a day of fun at Dog Beach in Provincetown, make your way downtown to WayDownTown Restaurant. Serving lunch and dinner seven days a week, and breakfast on weekends, this local landmark welcomes pups on their waterfront patio on Cape Cod Bay. Order one of the staple menu items like New England clam chowder or a lobster roll, and cool off with a cocktail or ice cold draft beer. Wait staff will keep your pooch topped off with water and might even bring him a plate of bacon. The restaurant features live music several nights of the week, but if you’re looking for more waterfront views, tasty drinks, and tunes Fido can tap his paw to, head down the street to the dog-friendly deck at Aqua Bar.

Just a block behind WayDownTown Restaurant, The Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s is the perfect place to rest up. Relax around the outdoor firepit, stroll through the sun-drenched gardens, or learn about the town’s haunted past on a Provincetown Ghost Tour which departs from next door.

Dig your paws into the sugar white sand of Gulf Drive Cafe, located in Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island. Gather your family and Fido around the tiki hut at this tropical eatery that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Order fresh Florida seafood and a specialty cocktail, or dine at one of the beachfront tables with tiki umbrellas. The restaurant and bar overlook the Gulf of Mexico for pristine evening sunsets and the chance to spot dolphins on the horizon.

Once Fido’s had his fill, walk back to your room at Queen’s Gate Resort, where you can enjoy the seabreeze from your patio, or take you pup for a walk around the grassy yard.

Panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean will greet you at Wooly’s in Pismo Beach. Take a break from the sun and relax on the open-air beachfront deck with Fido. Order a delicious central coast wine, specialty cocktail like the Pismo Sunset, or a draft beer. Then chow down on seafood, tacos, burgers, or one of the Pismo favorites like chowder fries. Hungry hounds can fill their bellies with a burger patty from the dog menu before taking a walk out on the beach at Pismo Beach Pier or down the coastline to Pismo State Beach.

Stay nearby in a pet-friendly suite at oceanfront Pismo Lighthouse Suites. Your pup will be greeted with a pet bed, blanket, bowls, and treats, and you’ll dig the heated pool and family game deck.

Dine at an umbrella table right on the sand, and overlooking Assawoman Bay at Macky’s Bayside Bar and Grill. This Ocean City staple is the go-to destination for locals and tourists alike, and four-legged diners will love it, too. Fido can order a hot dog, sliders, steak, or apples and carrots from the Canine Cuisine menu, and you’ll enjoy casual American fare like ribs, flounder, or a New York strip. Frozen drinks, premium cocktails, and sangria buckets will keep you cool while your pup laps up a bowl of ice cold water. After dinner swing by Dumser’s Drive-In and order ice cream for dessert.

Book a bay view room with a balcony at Residence Inn by Marriott Ocean City to continue admiring the coastline. Then, if Fido wants to get his paws wet, he can join you at Ocean City Beach from October through May, and at nearby Isle of Wight during summer.

You canine can join you on the outdoor deck or at one of the picnic tables overlooking the beach and Pamlico Sound. Come for dinner and catch a spectacular sunset and listen to live music, or show off your skills on karaoke night. The restaurant serves up burgers, sandwiches, and seafood along with a great selection of ice cold brews. Don’t forget to order a key lime tart or brownie with ice cream for dessert.

Spend a few days exploring Hatteras Island, including Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and book a stay at Cape Pines Motel. In addition to treats at the front desk, Fido will love running leash-free in the property’s fenced dog run.

Once Fido has worked up an appetite after a day at Montrose Dog Beach, take him to the expansive patio of The Dock, a casual beach bar with unparalleled views of the Chicago skyline and the beaches of Lake Michigan. Relax with a cocktail while other pups play in the sand, and watch boats sail by and aquatic birds glide overhead to the neighboring bird sanctuary. Patio umbrellas and the Windy City’s lake breeze will keep your pup cool on a summer day. The menu features tacos, sandwiches, and Great Lakes white fish as well as beer, cocktails, and wine, and live bands can be heard daily throughout the summer.

You won’t have to travel far when you stay with your pup at Best Western Plus Hawthorne Terrace Hotel, located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood. Your pup will receive treats at check-in. If that’s not enough, she’ll find more delicious surprises and plenty of Cubs gear at Wigglyville, just one block away.

As you make your way down Overseas Highway to the Florida Keys, stop for lunch or dinner at Marker 88 on Plantation Key in Islamorada. Follow signs for the dog entrance and you’ll be seated at one of the oceanfront tables along the natural beach overlooking calm, turquoise blue waters. The sea breeze will keep you cool while you dine on a Cheeseburger in Paradise, Islamorada fish sandwich, or lobster bisque, and wet your whistle with a tropical cocktail. The restaurant is also accessible by water, and the dock provides plenty of boat parking. If you stop in for dinner, you and your pup will be treated to a breathtaking sunset over the ocean.

Extend your stay in paradise at Casa Morada, a boutique oasis that includes complimentary breakfast and use of kayaks, paddle boards, and bicycles. Stay on a Wednesday and you can also enjoy a free yoga class.
