Dog Days! Can’t-Miss Dog-Friendly Events in July

Hot diggity dog! Temperatures are on the rise and so are the number of dog-friendly events around the U.S. and Canada. According to the Farmer's Almanac, the Dog Days of Summer begin on July 3rd. Although they’re considered to be the hottest days of the year, they’re also the perfect time to attend one of these “cool” events with Fido.

Independence Day doesn't have to be an annual source of stress for our furry friends. Follow our pet safety tips to help Fido deal with the fireworks and let him enjoy America's birthday at one of these 20 dog-friendly July 4th events.

Since 2004, West Fest Chicago has taken over the West Town Community every summer for a weekend of live music, DJs, and local food and arts. The festival is so pet friendly it even features Pet Fest, included on BringFido’s list of most pet-friendly summer festivals of 2019. Your pup can run an obstacle course, splash in paddling pools, or get crafty with paw painting. Meet pet vendors, veterinarians and canine therapists, and don't miss the many pet demonstrations throughout the weekend. Your pooch can even get his caricature drawn! Before you leave, stop by the charity doggie wash where your furry friend can freshen up.

Pet Fest at West Fest takes place from noon to 6 p.m. on July 6 and 7 at 1819 West Chicago Avenue and the surrounding area. Dogs enter for free, and guests who give a $5 donation will receive a goody bag of treats. Proceeds benefit Alive Rescue and One Tail at a Time.

Muddy Paws Wine Festival

Vineland Estates Winery and Featherstone Estate Winery in Niagara open their doors to four-legged guests and their owners for one summer weekend during the Muddy Paws Wine Festival. While you sample delicious foods and award-winning wines, Fido can feast on fresh-baked artisanal dog treats. You can both shop the outdoor marketplace and meet adoptable pups from local rescues. The festival includes live jazz and rock music, and a professional photographer will be there to capture all the fun. Your pup might even win prizes during one of the dog contests.

The Muddy Paws Wine Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on July 6 and 7 at Featherstone Estate Winery in Vineland, Ontario, CA. Admission is $25. The event is sponsored by Boreal Pet Food and a portion of the proceeds goes to The Bello Project.

BYOD Austin Peanut Butter Pawty

Is your pup the “Peanut Butter Champion of the Universe?” Find out at the BYOD Austin Peanut Butter Pawty at Oskar Blues Brewery. Only vet-approved peanut butter is served to the 10 dogs competing for the title. Try a few craft brews while your canine connoisseur licks her way through a tasting of her favorite spread. The puparazzi will be on hand to cover the event, and all four-legged guests receive a peanut butter goody bag to take home.

BYOD Austin Peanut Butter Pawty runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13 at Oskar Blues Brewery in Austin, TX. All guests planning to attend must RSVP to the event. Admission is free for BYOD members and $10 for non-members.

Labrador Retrievers and other friendly canines are invited to Lab it up at LabFest! Maggie Malick Wine Caves hosts this annual fundraiser at its boutique winery in Northern Virginia. A highlight of the event is Chesapeake DockDogs, which provides a demonstration and practice at one of the estate's four ponds. The 40-foot regulation dock was built by CDD for jumping competitions. Whether your pup is a pro or just learning to get his paws wet, he can join in the fun. (Don't forget to bring a towel and your pup’s favorite toy.) While Fido swims in the pond, you can relax with a glass of Maggie Malick’s award-winning wines and snack on cheeses, baguettes and charcuterie.

LabFest takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 13 at Maggie Malick Wine Caves in Purcellville, VA. Chesapeake DockDogs invites leaping Labs from 10 a.m. to noon, but non-members must be present at 9:45 a.m. for a brief orientation. Admission is free for members and $10 for non-members.

Trail Mixer: Yoga & Dogs

Trail Mixer: Yoga & Dogs is a fun event for two- and four-legged Zen seekers. Hosted by National Parks Golden Gate Conservancy, the outdoor yoga class is led by Downward Drinking Dog, with REI on hand to lead a fun activity. Stop by the D.I.Y. doggie toy station courtesy of Jake's Wish Dog Rescue, or let Fido help himself to the t(r)ail mix bar of dog treats. There will also be giveaways and prizes, including one for best BARK Ranger outfit. For human guests, complimentary small bites, a trail mix bar by REI and cold brews will be available.

Trail Mixer: Yoga & Dogs will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on July 18 at Crissy Field Park's East Beach in San Francisco, CA. Admission is $20 and tickets are limited. Human guests must be 21 or older, and only one dog per adult is permitted.

PAWS Chicago Beach Party

Dress Fido in his Hawaiian shirt and Fifi in her grass skirt for the PAWS Chicago Beach Party! Five hundred luau guests and their pets will enjoy an evening on the Castaways Bar and Grill Beach Yacht. Humans can sip on frozen cocktails from the open bar and enjoy dinner and dancing. There will be both live and silent auctions, raffles and pet spa services for furry friends.

PAWS Chicago Beach Party kicks off at 6 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. on July 18 at Castaways Bar and Grill at North Avenue Beach in Chicago, IL. Tickets for the event start at $250 and proceeds benefit PAWS Chicago.

Farmington Fido Fest

The Farmington Founders Festival is an annual summer event with a parade, live music, and food and drinks. One of 2018’s most popular attractions, the Farmington Fido Fest, is back for 2019 and packed with exciting activities for two- and four-legged attendants. Ultimate Air Dogs and Rock N' Roll K9s provide the entertainment, and Fido can test his speed and skill with Lucky Dog Lure Coursing or the Motor City Harley Davidson’s Radar Run. Your hound can also sniff his way through a Barn Hunt game and chase Frisbees with Disc Dogs of Michigan.

Shop the vendor village for homemade dog treats and toys, grab a drink from the “Bark Garden” and catch a dog-themed movie with your best friend on Friday evening. You can even take home a new family member from a local rescue.

Farmington Fido Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 at Shiawassee Park in Farmington, MI. Admission is free.

Old Dog Haven Walk for Old Dogs

Your pup doesn’t have to be a senior to join the 8th annual Old Dog Haven Walk for Old Dogs, which celebrates four-legged elders with a leisurely promenade. After, grab a bite from the food and treat vendors and find a spot at the amphitheater, where you can view the Oldest Dog Competition and the Old Dog Pageant. See who takes home the prize for Best Trick and Best Costume. You can also play a game of musical chairs with your mutt.

Old Dog Haven Walk for Old Dogs takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 21 at Cromwell Park in Shoreline, WA. Registration is $35 per person and includes a tote bag. Dogs and children 12 and under walk for free. All proceeds will help senior dogs.

The Grapehound Wine Tour

Enjoy four days of wine tasting and tail wagging at The Grapehound Wine Tour in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Sample products from 34 wineries, five brew pubs and one distillery at this dog-friendly event designed to raise funds for Greyhound adoption groups. All well-behaved Greyhounds and sighthounds are welcome, but you don’t have to own a hound or drink wine to attend. Guests can enjoy live music, tasty fare from local vendors, an ice cream social, silent auction, a Blessing of the Hounds and a shaded tent for relaxing and socializing with people and pups.

All adult registrants receive a commemorative wine glass and can participate in wine tastings. A welcome event with wine and hors d’oeuvres kicks off the weekend, and guests are invited to join a scenic walk to Taughannock Falls on Sunday morning.

The Grapehound Wine Tour takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July 25 to July 28 at Catharine Valley Winery in Burdett, NY. Admission is $31 and registration is required.

Oregon Corgi Beach Day

If sunshine, an ocean breeze and the waddle of a Corgi are some of your favorite things, don’t miss Oregon Corgi Beach Day! Your pup can dig his paws in the sand and meet new friends at Cannon Beach, one of our favorite dog-friendly beaches on the West Coast. You can shop for Corgi gifts, purchase raffle tickets and bid on silent auction items. The theme for this year’s event is Corgi Beach Bums, so dress your pup in her bikini and doggles, pack a picnic lunch and bring your Corgi (or Corgi mix) out for a fun day in the surf and sand. Prizes will be given for Best Beach Bootie, Celebrity Impersonations and an owner and dog Dynamic Duo.

Oregon Corgi Beach Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 27 at Cannon Beach in Cannon Beach, OR. Admission is free but a $10 donation is encouraged. All proceeds go to the Oregon Humane Society.

Pet-A-Palooza Day of the Dog

Let your pup have a day like no other at Pet-a-Palooza Day of the Dog! The West Coast’s largest pet festival is action-packed with dock diving competitions, Running of the Bulls (French and English Bulldog races), wiener dog races, a Puppy Stampede, and a Ruff Mudd. This last one is a 120-foot mud pit obstacle course for human-and-dog teams! There will also be a photo booth, Dinner En Dogge, over 120 exhibitors and yoga with adoptable puppies.

Pet-A-Palooza Day of the Dog takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 in the Eau Claire neighborhood of Calgary, AB, CA. Admission is free.
