Whether your pup carries his own supplies or you’re toting them for him, weight is always something to consider. These freeze-dried nuggets from Primal Pet Foods are a complete meal for your pooch, crafted with high-quality protein and organic produce. Because they are freeze-dried, the bites are shelf-stable and ready to serve. They’re also light to carry, making them perfect for long hikes. If your pup is more of a cookie monster, Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats are designed for on-the-go snacking while in the wild. These crunchy biscuits are heavy in protein from turkey, duck, or salmon, and they offer healthy omega fatty acids from flaxseed. The naturally crunchy texture cleans teeth while Fido chews, and the vitamin, mineral, and fatty acid-enriched recipe keeps your pal sharp and healthy on your hikes.

Sometimes heavy exercise can make a hiking hound's tummy extra sensitive, but these Merrick Power Bites are easy to eat and digest. In addition to the chewy texture, the bites are loaded with nutrient-dense, but gentle-on-the-tummy ingredients like chicken, peas, potatoes, and apples. The high levels of protein in these conveniently-sized bites help maintain energy levels on the trail, and the glucosamine and chondroitin will help keep joints healthy for the many years of future hiking.

These No Bake “Grrr-nola” Bars, as featured in DIY Road Trip Snacks for Fido, offer your pup a big helping of healthy fats and carbs for a quick source of energy on the trail.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ⅓ cup low sodium peanut butter
  • 1 tbs chia seeds
  • ¼ cup unsweetened shredded coconut
  • ½ cup apple, diced

Instructions

  1. Soak chia seeds in 2 tablespoons of cold water for 10 minutes. The chia seeds should absorb most or all of the water.

  2. Mix oats and peanut butter until well combined. Stir in rehydrated chia seeds, shredded coconut and diced apple.

  3. Put the mixture in an 8 x 8 baking pan (or similar size dish) lined with parchment paper. Cover with plastic wrap and press down firmly. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to an hour.

  4. Cut and wrap individually in plastic wrap or parchment paper. (If you refrigerate for longer, the bars will need to rest at room temperature to be soft enough to cut).
