This February, bundle up with Fido for fabulous winter fun at a pet-friendly event. It’s K-9 keg pull season, and even if your four-legged friend isn’t up for competing, bring him along to watch as pups of all sizes bound through the snow with a keg or beer can in tow. There’s so much fun to be had with your canine companion this February, you’ll wish it wasn’t the shortest month of the year!

Sunriver Brewing Company K-9 Keg Pull
Sunriver is one of Oregon’s best-loved pet-friendly destinations, and one of its most popular events is the annual Sunriver Brewing Company K-9 Keg Pull. Register your dog to bolt down the 120-foot snowy runway while towing an appropriately sized keg and having a marvelous time. Awards will be given to the “Fast as Lightning Fido” in each weight category. When he’s not competing, you can bring your best bud along while you enjoy local food, sample Sunriver Brewing Company beer, and visit dog-related vendors. Be sure to visit the Humane Society of Central Oregon booth to donate dog food for a chance to win a raffle basket of goodies.
The Sunriver Brewing Company K-9 Keg Pull will be held on February 5 at The Village at Sunriver Courtyard. If Fido would like to take part, the entry fee is $20. The Lodge Valley rooms at Sunriver Resort welcome dogs with a package filled with treats, water bowl, and puppy pads.
Greenfield Winter Carnival and K9 Keg Pull
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the Greenfield Winter Carnival is a weekend-long celebration of all things blustery. The event culminates in a K9 Keg Pull in which dogs of every shape and size sprint for glory while pulling appropriately sized “kegs,” as onlookers on two legs and four cheer them along. To keep things fair, smaller pups drag empty beer cans, while heftier Huskies and the like pull full-size (but also empty) kegs.
The Greenfield Winter Carnival K9 Keg Pull will take place on Sunday, February 6 at 1 p.m. at Beacon Field. Participation in the race requires a $10 registration fee, which benefits Paws Park. Stay just across the state line in Vermont at the charming Weatherhead Hollow Schoolhouse, where you'll be greeted by misty morning views of the mountains.
Enjoy a day playing on the frozen pond with Fido and sign him up to participate in the Dog Keg Pull race at Winterpaloozah! Additional events at this winter festival in Rangeley, ME, include wagon rides, a cardboard sled race, firewood toss competition, pond hockey, curling, snowkiting demos, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, snow castle building, and a campfire & marshmallow roast.
The Dog Keg Pull at Winterpaloozah will take off at 12:45 p.m. on February 20 at Haley Pond Park. Registration to participate is $10. You and your pup can stay walking distance from the park at this pet-friendly Charming Farm House vacation rental.
Lake George Dog's Got Talent
If your pooch has a special talent or just wants to show off how he’s the goodest boy around, he could be the perfect contender for the Lake George Dog’s Got Talent contest. Held annually during the Lake George Winter Carnival, this event is an absolute fan favorite. Prizes are awarded by the esteemed judges to the favorite “pawticipants.”
Lake George Dog’s Got Talent will be held every Sunday in February at Shepard’s Park Beach. Book a room at the Roaring Brook Ranch Resort, a pet-friendly retreat in a breathtaking woodland setting.
The Barking Game - A Valentines Dog Festival
Give your pup a chance to find true love at The Barking Game - A Valentines Dog Festival. The "pawty" will be hosted at Holler Brewing Co. by PawzUp, which curates dog-specific popup events, in conjunction with Houston dog walkers and sitters, A Dog's Life HTX. It will feature local pet vendors, live music, food trucks and drinks, but the highlight of the day will be Doggie Speed Dating, where Fido can meet and greet new furry friends.
The Barking Game - A Valentines Dog Festival will be held at Holler Brewing Company on February 6. The event is family- and dog-friendly, and free for attendees. Stay in the heart of downtown in a pet-friendly room at the Hyatt Regency Houston.
Annual Puppy Bowl at Yard Bar
Put your game-face on and hustle over to the Annual Puppy Bowl at Yard Bar. This epic event begins at the Austin Humane Society with an abundance of tailgating snacks, goods from local vendors, drinks by Tito's Handmade Vodka and, of course, lots of adoptable dogs available for meet and greets. The party will continue at one of Austin’s favorite pet-friendly restaurants, Yard Bar, which hosts the annual Puppy Bowl. This game before the Big Game pits teams of “fur-ociously” cute pups taking to the gridiron in an epic display of uninhibited adorableness. The pooches go head to head to secure the coveted championship title, chosen by celebrity “ruff-erees” and VIPs (Very Important Puppy-fans).
If your dog is under 35 lbs and ready to rumble, a $30 Puppy Player donation can secure him a spot in a quarter of the game. Spectator passes are free. The Annual Puppy Bowl at Yard Bar kicks off on February 12. Keep the fun going with a stay at the hip boutique hotel, Aiden by Best Western Austin City.
Methow Valley Doggie Dash
Held every February in Massachusetts, the Methow Valley Doggie Dash is a spectacle to behold. Costumed dogs and their humans ski a short loop together to the delight of the crowd. A panel of experts will select one participant as the Best in Show Costume, and that winner is awarded the coveted Golden Poodle Trophy. Additional category prizes include Methow Trails Dog Passes and goodies from local businesses.
The Methow Valley Doggie Dash will be held on February 20 at Winthrop Town Trailhead. For a convenient place to stay with your dog, book a room just up the road at the Mt Gardner Inn.
Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run
Help your canine companion stick to his New Year's resolutions with the challenging but festive Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run. The 50K-course consists of three 10.4-mile loops of technical course on rocky, root-bound, hilly bridle trails and single-track trails. Participants can sign up for a 10-Mile, 20-mile, or full 50k-race. As is typical of February events, some years the course is muddy, sometimes it is frozen solid, but the run is always a good time. The party atmosphere is replete with a DJ, craft beers on tap, regular and vegan chili, and downloadable race photos by Mile 90 Photography.
Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run will be held on February 20 at Wyandotte County Lake Park. Admission is $10 for canine participants. This modern home in historic Strawberry Hill is the perfect place to rest and recover with your pup before and after the big race.
Each year, the City of Santee, CA, hosts Fido Fest, an event designed especially for dogs and dog lovers. The festival draws over 2,000 attendees and their pets, and features a wide variety of exhibitors, giveaways, entertainment, pet product vendors and more. Be sure to check out the Fly Ball demonstrations and maybe introduce Fido to a new hobby! There will also be discounted vaccinations and microchipping on site, and even the chance to bring home a new four-legged family member from one of the local rescue organizations.
Fido Fest is free to attend and will be held on February 26 at Town Center Community Park East. You and your dog can stay comfortably in a pet-friendly room at the mission-style Best Western Santee Lodge during your visit.
