On National Dog Day, 2019, Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores is showing its customers just how much it loves Fido. In a statement released today, the company announced the construction of 90 new dog parks across its network of more than 490 fueling stations and convenience store locations.

A Pet-Friendly Mission

With locations in 41 states, chances are most American road trippers will have visited a Love’s Travel Stop at some point. Catering to a range of travelers from professional drivers transporting goods to families on vacation, Love’s colorful hearts indicate a safe haven for refueling, restocking and a much-needed respite from the road. Regular breaks are even more important when pups are on board, and this is one rest stop that’s on a mission to make the lives of dogs and their owners easier by giving them a safe place to stretch their legs.

Adding dog parks was the best way for us to serve those who travel with their treasured companions.

Greg Love, co-CEO of Love's Travel Stops.

The project began with four original dog parks at Love’s Travel Stops in Tennessee and South Carolina. These proved such a success that plans were immediately drawn up for other locations. So far, the company has added 65 fenced-in areas across the country and now has an additional 90 under construction. Every new location is being built with a dog park and existing ones are being retrofitted to include them.

“As more and more professional drivers take their four-legged friends with them on the road, we’ve seen great use of our dog parks. Dogs have become such important members of the family, so we’ve also seen strong demand from four-wheel travelers as well,” said Lance Schmidt, Love’s Director of Facilities Maintenance.

No two Love’s Travel Stops are the same, and neither are the dog parks. However, all of the fenced-in play areas range from 50 to 100 feet in size and are equipped with a double air-locked gate for pet safety as well as pet waste stations. Humans can watch their dogs interact with other furry road warriors from benches inside the park.

"Catering to our customers is a top priority for us, and adding dog parks was the best way for us to serve those who travel with their treasured companions," said Greg Love, co-CEO of Love's. "Customers have been asking for safe and secure areas dedicated to their dogs, and we're thrilled to finally announce this much-anticipated addition to select Love's locations."
