New Dog Parks and Pet-Friendly Attractions: April

To kick off spring, hop with Fido over to one of several new dog parks and attractions that are opening around the country this month. As warmer weather returns, order your pooch a scoop of doggie ice cream and frolic with friends while you soak up sunshine and sip on a refreshing drink at these new pet-friendly spots in April.

Canines visiting the Lone Star State are encouraged to bring their humans for a night out at Texas Dog Co. in San Antonio. After celebrating its grand opening in March, locals and visitors alike have already been enjoying all that this pet-friendly destination has to offer, including a dog park, beer garden, food trucks and sand volleyball courts. Pooches and their parents can kick back and relax with drinks and snacks, or participate in a variety of activities and events, including dog races, costume nights and more.

There’s no need to end the night early when you and your pup can stay just a stone’s throw away at the Hyatt Place San Antonio Northwest. In the morning, take a five-minute stroll with your favorite pal to First Watch for a delicious breakfast on the dog-friendly sidewalk patio.

Honor our heroic dogs of service with a visit to War Dog Memorial Park in Riverside, CA. Just a few minutes west of the March Air Reserve Base, this special park features educational signage showcasing the involvement and achievements of military working dogs throughout history. Fenced play areas invite Fido in for some off-leash exercise, where he can roll around on the grassy lawn and stay hydrated with fresh water from the dog drinking fountains.

Save time for a stop at the pet-friendly California Citrus State Historic Park as you make your way to Hampton Inn & Suites Riverside/Corona East, where you can snuggle up with your pup after a day of sightseeing.

Calling all pups large and small to the newest dog park in League City, TX. Bark Park at Hometown Heroes Park offers over three acres of fenced areas equipped with dog water fountains and agility equipment for canines of various sizes to enjoy. Fido will enjoy exploring this beautiful park while meeting new friends. Be sure to check out the three dog sculptures featured on the grounds - a wood carving and two scrap metal works of art. See if you and your Sighthound can spot some hidden treasures in each one.

Conveniently located down the road from Bark Park is Candlewood Suites League City. On your way back to the hotel, grab a pint or a meal with Fido on the pet-friendly patio at King’s Bierhaus before settling in for the night.

This North Carolina outdoor beer garden and event space is home to a daily lineup of food trucks, live music and special events for you to enjoy with your pooch. The one-acre beer garden features picnic tables and fire pit seating for the whole family. Known as “America’s Dairyland,” it seems only fitting that the newest location of the Salty Paws franchise, a dog ice cream bar, recently opened its doors in Wisconsin. Located near the river in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward, this pet-friendly spot is sure to be a big hit with Fido as spring brings in warmer temperatures and thoughts of frozen treats. Stop in with your pup to pick out her very own toppings on a bowl of lactose-free ice cream. This “pawtastic” shop can even host a birthday party or social event for your favorite canine and their four-legged friends.

Reserve a suite for you and your pooch at the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel, where furry guests are provided with everything they need for a good night’s sleep, including a dog bed and bowls. Enjoy a morning walk with Fido to Catalano Square, a small community park just a block from the hotel.

Have you ever wanted to order a pint of craft beer from a converted 1971 Airstream bar? Well, now you and Fido can at The Rollin’ Mullet in Tampa, FL. This open-air bar is a new dog-friendly attraction all the local pups are howling about. Enjoy a drink while watching sports on one of 10 large-screen TVs, grab a seat around the fire pit, or play a yard game while Fido relaxes by your side on the grassy lawn. On weekends, you can pair your pint with grub from their on-site food truck, which serves up delicious hot dogs, burgers, quesadillas and Philly cheesesteaks.

Book a night at pet-friendly Le Meridien Tampa, a historic courthouse-turned-chic hotel offering complimentary pet bowls during Fido’s stay. While you’re there, visit the nearby Dog Park at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park which features a fenced dog run with artificial turf and agility equipment.
