The “howlidays” are coming, and brightly colored gifts aren’t the only exciting things being unwrapped this season. You and your best friend won’t need to squeeze down the chimney to soak up the festive atmosphere at these dog-friendly openings this December.

Bar K opened the doggy doors to its first location in 2018 and wowed the canine community of Kansas City so much that they’ve expanded to St. Louis, MO. Located in The Grove neighborhood, Bar K St. Louis offers humans and their canines a place to eat, drink and meet new friends. Dogtenders are on site to look after Fido while you dine on “healthy casual” fare sourced from ethical and humane farmers. Members will enjoy specials throughout the week, and there is a full dog menu available with items like turkey and sweet potato meatballs and ice cream nuggets. For the indecisive mutt, order a doggie flight with a sampling of any three menu items. The dog bar also has an on-site, full-service grooming salon if your pooch is looking for a new ‘do, and a self-bathing facility to clean up before heading home.
Nashville International Airport Dog Park
Nashville International Airport (BNA) is proud to be pet-friendly. Adding to the welcoming curbside relief areas and an indoor relief area with a fire hydrant (and more planned), the airport has recently opened a dog park where pups can stretch their legs before jetting off. Open in time for the busy holiday travel season, the pristine artificial turf park on the fifth floor of Terminal Garage 1 in the plaza is equipped with a seesaw and water fountain.
Baerlic Brewing Company and Beer Garden
The brand-new Baerlic Brewing Company and Beer Garden is home to an expansive pet-friendly patio garden, giving Fido 2,500 square feet of space to hang out with your pack while you enjoy a pint or two. During the winter months, warm your pup's bones around the fire pits and take shelter under the covered area.
Quarry Trails Metro Park
Bring your furry trekker to Quarry Trails Metro Park in Columbus. Located along the west bank of the Scioto River, the 220-acre park has been described as an “urban Hocking Hills experience.” As of November 30, leashed outbound hounds can explore the park’s trails, view the beautiful waterfall from an overlook, and ramble around the former quarry. Plans are already in place for the installation of a dog park at Quarry Trails in 2022.
Nixa Dog Park
Nixa Dog Park is now open in Southern Nixa, MO. The 4-acre park is completely fenced and divided into sections for small and large dogs. Agility equipment, features for dog owners and more are in the works. Local pups will need to purchase an annual tag for $20 to play in the park, and should also have their city dog license. Tags can be purchased at The X Center.
Good Dog Boarding & Walks
Miniature mutts of San Antonio who are bored at home can now enjoy daycare in the Pearl neighborhood at Good Dog Boarding & Walks. The new facility for bite-sized bowsers offers a range of services like daycare, overnight boarding and a walking service. Every design decision took small dogs into consideration, including two indoor play areas and another two outside, plus individual kennels. Dogs under 35 lbs or less than 15 inches tall are welcome at Good Dog.
BrewDog’s Doghouse Columbus, a featured attraction the second edition of our Ruff Guide to the United States, is one of the coolest pet-friendly brewery hotels in the country. So we fully expect their new location to live up to the hype. BrewDog is bringing its recognizable pours like Elvis Juice, Hazy Jane and Light Speed to Cleveland for the first time. Riverside views, toasty fire pits, comfortable outdoor furniture and an amazing atmosphere await “pawtrons” at BrewDog Cleveland, which opened for business on December 3.
Anderson Farm County Park Dog Park
Mutts of Madison and the surrounding areas have a new spot to trot in the nearby Village of Oregon. Anderson Farm County Park Dog Park is a 35-acre off-leash dog park divided into separate areas for small and large pups. Walkers can enjoy the limestone trails that wind through the large fenced space and can “paws” for a snack at the edible orchard. You and your pooch can even stroll all the way to the park along a paved trail from the village. Sign up for a park permit here.
