Escape to nature with your furry sidekick and spend some time at Buckeye’s Cabin in Leadville, CO this fall. In September and early October, the aspens begin to turn vibrant yellow and dot the landscape, adding to the already stunning view from this rustic cabin nestled above 10,000 feet and at the headwaters of the Arkansas River. Kick back on the wraparound porch and admire views of Mount Elbert, Colorado’s highest peak, or snuggle up with Fido and a good book in front of the wood-burning fireplace. When you’re ready to venture out, take your pooch for a fall train ride on the Leadville, Colorado & Southern Railroad.

Grab a cup of coffee and a blanket and relax with Fido on the deck of Smoky Mountain View in Sevierville, TN. This two-bedroom cabin overlooks mountains and valleys filled with oak, sugar maple, sweet gum, and hickory trees showing off their vibrant fall foliage from mid-October to early November. Soak in the outdoor hot tub on a cool fall evening, then head inside to cuddle with your pup in front of the large stone fireplace. The cabin is just minutes from Great Smoky Mountains National Park where you can drive with your pup along Newfound Gap Road, stopping at overlooks to admire the colorful vistas along the way. Or, head further into the park for a scenic drive on Cades Cove Loop Road. You’re likely to spot deer, elk and black bears in autumn.

Lazy Dog Cabin

Situated among the Green Mountains of Vermont, Lazy Dog Cabin in Wardsboro is the perfect autumn escape. This three-bedroom log cabin sits on two wooded acres, but is also a short drive to pet-friendly hiking trails through fall foliage at Equinox Preserve in Manchester and Madame Sherri Forest in Battleboro. From early September to mid-October, yellow birch, sugar maples, and American beech splash color across the mountains, and the dark green of white pines adds a beautiful contrast to the landscape. After a day of adventure, let Fido rest his paws in front of the cabin fireplace while you soak in the jetted-tub, play a game of pool with the family or grill dinner on the deck. Once the sun sets, gather around the outdoor firepit or snuggle under the skylights on the front porch and stargaze on a clear fall night.

Poppy’s Hideaway

Let country roads take you and Fido home to Poppy’s Hideaway located on the Shenandoah River in Luray, VA. This three-bedroom cabin is perfect for any time of the year, but you’ll want to be there when the chestnut, red oaks and maples begin to change in early October. Put your feet up in the hammock by the water, cast a line and reel in channel catfish and bass, or take one of the kayaks out for an autumn paddle. Watch the sunset cast a hue of orange and red over the mountains from the covered porch and then gather around the large outdoor fire pit to warm your pup’s paws on a chilly evening. During your visit, take some time to explore Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Stop along the scenic overlooks, or take your pooch for a fall hike on one of the many dog-friendly trails.

While the area surrounding the Columbia River Gorge in Washington is beautiful any time of year, fall is without a doubt the most colorful. Bring Fido along for an autumn getaway to Raven’s Nest in White Salmon. This cabin made of rough-cut wood features a private deck accessible from the bedroom or living room that overlooks the White Salmon River. Drink your morning coffee on the deck, or let your pup join you in the bench swing right on the water. White oaks, Pacific dogwoods and aspens are among the wide variety of hardwoods surrounding the cabin that change color and peak from mid-September to mid-October. Enjoy more autumn views on a hike just across the Columbia River at Hood River Waterfront Trail or on nearby Dog Mountain Trail.

Wrightsville Cabin

Spend a quiet fall weekend with Fido cozying up by one of the three gas fireplaces, or warming your toes around the outdoor fire pit at this Wrightsville Cabin bordering Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Nestled among the hardwoods and alongside a picturesque creek, this one-bedroom cabin has two screened-in porches where you and Fido can curl up with a blanket, breathe in the autumn air and listen to the flowing water. When you’re ready to explore the area with your pup, head to The Amish Farm and House in Lancaster and take a bus tour around the countryside dotted in northern red oaks, yellow poplars and sugar maples. Colors tend to peak from the end of September to mid-October. Visit October 8-10 for Fall Farm Days at The Amish Farm and House and Fido can join you for a hayride, pumpkin chunkin’, or to help you escape the corn maze.

Patterson’s Cabin

Patterson’s Cabin, located just ten miles from downtown Eureka Springs in the Ozark Mountains is the perfect autumn retreat with Fido. From the covered front porch, relax in rocking chairs and gaze out over the hills of Arkansas at the Autumn Blaze red maples, blackgums, and ornamental cherries which peak in late October. You’ll likely spot deer and other wildlife gearing up for winter. Explore the home’s eight acres with your pup, including a trail that leads to a wet-weather waterfall. Fire up the grill and have dinner on the patio, then let the kids play in the game room while you and your pooch warm up around the hand-laid stone fireplace. Venture out to find more fall foliage and take a ride on the excursion train with Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway.
