On New Year's Eve Day for the past 7 years, downtown Key West has been turned into a Wiener Wonderland when the annual Dachshund Walk is held.
This event began as a "quirky little gathering" and has grown into a huge event that attracts dachshunds and wiener wanna-be's from around the world, (there were 227 entrants in 2011) and countless people lining Duval St to watch the little legs go past.
The parade is short ( we go around one block) with multiple rest stops and water bowls along the route. A nationwide media event - we've been covered by CNN, Huffington Post, Miami TV stations and the AP.
Some dogs come in costumes and many bring their creatively clad people as well. Dachshunds believe in Key West's "One Human Family" idea, so no dog is excluded. Wanna-be's just bring up the rear! ;)
There is no charge for the event, but this year we are asking participants to bring along a bag of food to be donated to the local Petfood Pantry, operated by St Mary's Star of the Sea Outreach program, for people who can't always afford to feed their pets.
No registration necessary - but you may email us with questions at email@example.com.
See you there!!!
