Cross Country Drive with my dog!

Hi!

Im moving from LA to NY at the end of August, and i'll have my dog Dudley (20 Lbs) and my dad in tow. We'd like to see as much as we can while making the trek, but does anyone have any tips on what motels/hotels to stay at, or how to go see local things and what to do with the dog while doing it?

He's not great in a crate when he's alone, and he's not always the most friendly with other dogs. I've never boarded or had him in Day-care before!
