restroom breaks for humans with dogs travelling alone in summer

What have people learned in terms of being able to make a pit stop for the human while not wanting to leave the dog in the car -- travelling alone and will need the occasional 5 minute stop. Are there restaurants or restrooms that are pet friendly along the 17 and the 400? Are there service stations that allow humans to bring their dog in with them to use the restroom?
