Description

Candlebay Inn has a long history in the Freeport area. Built in 1853, this beautifully restored shipbuilder's home was constructed by Henry A. Bailey, Hezekiah B. Means, Philip A. Briggs, and John A. Briggs. It is a typical New England-style house, with the main house connected to the barn by a shed; however, it is not a ?farm? house. The barn was constructed mainly to store merchandise until it was sold. Candlebay Inn, previously Captain Briggs Bed and Breakfast, was purchased in 2014 by Connie Lay and her family. With many years of experience in business management, Connie's purchase of the Captain Briggs Bed and Breakfast represents a lifelong dream of owning and operating her own business. She and her family spent eight years searching for the right community, and found it in Freeport.

    Just right

Beautiful time period room, clean, quiet (even though it was so close to town). Owner was more than accommodating. A special spot we will revisit with our fur baby!

    Quaint Inn

The Inn is perfect for a few day stop in the Freeport area, and Connie is a great host. We were in Evergreen Room and the room was so cute. The sheets and pillows were extremely soft, and the bathroom was HUGE. We had an extra large breed dog, and he was also very happy with his stay. So dog friendly.

    A quaint Inn

We brought our golden retriever on this trip. Connie, the owner, went out of her way to make sure we had an enjoyable stay and was there to assist our needs. We would highly recommend this Inn for both pet stays and non pet stays. The Inn and rooms are all extremely clean and neat. The Inn is steps from town so you can walk everywhere. Just a fun place to stay with or with out a pet.

    Great B&B experience

This was a very dog friendly inn. The hostess was super kind, our pups were comfortable and so were we. I was not sure how it would work at a B&B with two dogs but it was great. The breakfast was incredibly yummy, water and snacks available and town was just a couple blocks away. We hope to return next year.
