    Hard “NO” says both dogs!

After reading reviews here, I was so excited to stay here. The photos are lovely! My trip designer, through RECO (new from Trip Adviser) secured our 2 night reservation. Yay!

Upon arrival after 5 pm, the text message said to go to the main entrance door to get my instructions and key. No instructions, no key. Did I get that wrong? Check message. Nope, just not there. Within a couple of minutes, Alex the Asst. Manager popped out with the envelope. We greeted each other and he gave me directions to the Stravinsky room. I opened the door to be greeted by the bathroom and a very steep step down. A tiny landing, a step up to go to the bathroom, and a few more steep steps down. The room is nicely furnished and a light and tv had been turned on for us. Here’s where it goes south... Neither dog would enter the room. Obviously I wasn’t going to pull them down the steps. No amount of cajoling, nor treats worked. At 21 pounds Scout is easy enough to pick up and bring into the room but Kei is too big. So we closed the door and walked around the gardens. “Charming” they were not! Many plants and shrubs needed to be trimmed or the dead ones removed. It’s April and springtime is here but some of those plants were ready for composting. The pathways need trimming at dog eye level as well. It’s like someone just hadn’t tended to the gardens in months. Nothing like the online pics! Sad really. It obviously was beautiful at one time. Alex said there were no other rooms available so I chose to leave, forfeiting my non-refundable $967.36 (US dollars) for the 2 nights.

The value wasn’t there for me. If my dogs won’t go in, then it’s not right for us. We ended up very happily at the Santa Fe Motel and Inn (very lovely) for half the price and nicer, well kept grounds, a bigger room with kitchenette and NO steep stairs. Read their descriptions carefully so you don’t make my costly mistake. Best wishes!

    Seclusion in Santa Fe!

The Inn of the Turquoise Bear is a secluded retreat in the heart of Santa Fe!

From the moment we pulled onto the property, the blissfulness and charm hit us head on. Only located about a 10 minute walk from the square, when on property you can disappear and relax from the day-to-day bustle of life! Whether it be relaxing in a hammock, walking the gorgeous grounds, or retreating to your room for a nap - slowing down is almost a must!

We arrived several hours prior to check-in and fortunately Dan (the Inn's owner) had our room ready. The Spud Johnson room is their stand-alone room located apart from the main house. The room is not huge, but more than adequate for our needs. It has a huge walk-in shower, comfortable bed and fireplace sitting area which would be more enjoyed on a nice cold fall or winter evening! There is also a hammock right out front! One thing of note on this particular room is that because it is standalone, it has a dedicated water heater which is on the small side. We never had an issue, but for 2 people to get solid hot showers you may need to wait 20 minutes or so between cleanses.

Our room did not have a fridge (I do not believe any of them do), but there is a small fridge in the main house where guests can store items - we put white wine and water in there. They also provide complimentary water bottles for refill during your stay so that you can stay hydrated!

As the property is dog friendly, we had Lily, our Australian Shepherd with us. Dan & Alex had a welcome package for her, dog bowls and even a bed! We also had our 16 month old son with us. He too was welcomed with open arms!

Every day in the main lounge Dan & Alex have some sort of homemade treat available. When we arrived there were left over lemon bars from the day prior and by mid-afternoon there was a chocolate chess pie which was to die for! The second day was a cherry crisp - not too sweet, not too tart, just perfect!

One of the many highlights of the stay was the complimentary wine happy hour from 5 - 6'ish pm. They have white and red wine available in the wine or on the lounge. Meeting and chatting with the other guests was fantastic - we met some very interesting folks! Of note - there is also a liquor store a short 3 minute walk up the street should you desire to keep happy hour going into the evening!!!

Perhaps THE highlight of the property, next to the charm, hospitality, treats and wine is the breakfast! Every morning from 7:30 - 9:30 you can dine at your leisure in the dining room, on the patio, or they will even bring you breakfast in bed! There is a help yourself juice, yogurt, bread and fruit bar. Dan or Alex start you with a small different smoothie each morning and then you can choose your main dish. They try and alternate between sweet and savory on the menu - the first morning we had a frittata which was fantastic and the second day was lemon-ginger waffles. If the featured main is not for you they also offer eggs any way or huevos rancheros (highly recommended to try!).

Truth be told, I am struggling to find too many, if any, negatives here - having the Inn of the Turquoise Bear as home base for my Father's Day weekend really made our Santa Fe experience one to remember! It really is a slice of seclusion in Santa Fe!

    GREAT

Stayed here last week for 2 nights, myself and my dog. The grounds were beautiful and the breakfast was even better. Our stay started with a very warm welcome, dog treats, now,s and. Bed were waiting in the room. The room was very relaxing, very comfy bed and pillows.
The wine in the evening was a great way to meet our host and other guests. Walking distance to the Plaza was a plus since parking can be hard to find.
Hammocks and chairs scattered among the grounds added to the relaxing atmosphere

Nit many places will tell you that a dog crate not needed and that off leash is ok while on the grounds.

I will definitely be staying here again when I head back to Santa Fe.
