Reviews
Visitors were generally pleased with the hotel's dog-friendly amenities and beach access, though some noted issues with housekeeping, construction noise, and rude staff. Some travelers felt the hotel needed renovations and offered limited dining options for those with pets.

The elevator was not working when got there, closest to our room. When we left it still wasn't working. Ice machine on our floor not working. We had to go to the 1st floor for ice and soft drinks. Lastly the bed was too hard, couldn't rest. This was 80th Birthday celebration for my husband. It was terrible. Staff very nice. I saved and paid for trip myself. Extremely disappointed. NOT A RESORT!
- DebraMar 5, 2023Resort is a joke!
Pros: Wait staff at restaurant were exceptional. Cons: Housekeeping was terrible; never made beds, did not take dirty towels, no toiletries, did not replenish coffee or cups. The room had little flying bugs and smelled musty. The worst part was my husband's service dog was not allowed with him on pool deck or inside restaurant. We were rudely told by the drunk bartender to remove her from the deck. I spoke to the manager and she said that is their rules whether or not she is a service dog. I would not ever stay at Guy Harvey or recommend them.
- VirginiaMar 2, 2023Not so great
The hotel is old and not so nice. My room smelled bad. There is a bar at the pool that serves drinks, but has no bathrooms? When I asked the bartender where the nearest rest room was he told me “the pool or your room.” DISGUSTING. I could never use that pool for the rest of my stay. Stay somewhere else.
- MichaelFeb 7, 2023Construction noise
It was a decent place and nice beds, but we were not informed that there was construction going on at the pool, so we woke up to hammering and loud noises early in the morning. We booked the more expensive hotel room to have beach and pool view but was not as pleasant with the loud machines.
- JeanneDec 26, 2022Great location!
On the beach! Spacious dog friendly room, clean and comfortable. Lots of dog walking areas nearby.
- RosemaryDec 21, 2022Great location!
Our dogs were welcomed in the hotel, gift shop, and outdoor restaurant. Beach was steps away. We would definitely go back!
- KristinJul 6, 2022Super dog friendly!
From the front desk staff to the restaurant waitresses and hostess, they were beyond friendly and accommodating of our two pups! To those people who turned their nose up at the dogs- don’t stay at a dog friendly hotel. We requested a first floor by the door for our 4 month old golden and they got us super close to the door with a direct exit to the pool deck. When we went to Santiago’s our pups were given ice water (our 4 month old is teething and it helped so much!) and loved on by everyone there! Highly highly recommend staying here with your pups.
Yes the rooms are smaller than some hotels in the area, but the beds were comfortable, the rooms were super clean, and the shower was super easy to bathe the dogs in after playing on the beach. The housekeeping staff was awesome and gave us whatever we needed - we did not request housekeeping to clean the room as we had the dogs inside during the heat of the day. Dogs are also allowed on the pool deck (not in the pool of course) to enjoy live music in the evening and always welcome on the beach- the sand does get hot in the afternoon so I definitely recommend some paw pad protection in the summer! We will definitely be back thank you to the staff for making this a memorable trip!

Dog area large. Clean room. Friendly staff.
- JohanaMay 10, 2022Great Location, love this place!
Check-in was good. Staff was all very friendly. Dogs were a non issue. Room was great (& clean), pillows are awesome and loved the balcony. Lots of dog walking space including a small pond in front and love that the dogs are also welcomed onto the beach (which literally is a quick stroll out behind the hotel). The little restaurant had decent food albeit a little expensive. Lots to explore locally. Overall the dogs and humans all had an excellent time!
- KarynApr 18, 2022Super dog friendly, great location
We enjoyed our stay. Lots of dogs around, staff was helpful, rooms clean. Location close to a Publix and downtown not far, in addition to being right on the beach. We had a tiled first floor room, which was great with the dogs. Only negative was that due to short staffing the patio wasn’t open for dining.
- GloriaFeb 7, 2022One Happy Puppy
Very dog friendly.
- VJan 22, 2022Dog Friendly Resort
Located on the beach. Nice room, clean, safe area. We saw so many dogs, especially big dogs. We jokingly said this was a dog hotel where humans were allowed. All responsible dog owners. No issues with barking or unleashed pets. Balcony was great.
- EdAug 25, 2021Terrific Location
The hotel appears to be under renovation. Older hotel slowly being transformed. Were fortunate to get a first floor room looking onto the pool deck. End room so we were able to use our portable pen to allow pup to wonder about on our little patio. Tiki bar has limited food such as hot dogs and wraps. Would be nice if their restaurant served on pool deck area. Overall nice but need to work on the dog friendly other than the fact they were allowed in the hotel and to cross over to the beach there were not any other amenities. Potty area was pretty far across hot parking lot. Parking was free, which is nice. Staff were friendly.
- NancyJul 26, 2021Poor
I requested a ground floor room. Upon check in I was told that second floor room. Prior to arriving I had verified that I would be in a ground floor room. The room was terrible! There were large holes in the floor under the carpet near the air unit. The refrigerator was unstable and would attempt to flip over when the door was opened. The carpet looked dirty and was stained. This was the worst room I have ever stayed in.
- MelissaJul 18, 2021Very dog friendly
The hotel had us in very high traffic area and was packed, but there were many dogs on our floor so It worked out! A lot of green space to walk them on and of course going to the beach with them was great!
- GwennJul 9, 2021Only if its not raining
It was raining so all we heard was no outside dining with the pooch as the door is locked cause it rained? Doesn't it always rain in Florida in the summer???
- SallyJun 24, 2021Great location
Great location, right on the beach. Hotel is very dog friendly, several green spaces for a quick walk, with waste stations. Beach is dog friendly as well. Wifi is not very good in the room. I was able to do some work on the balcony. The staff was very friendly.
- ErikMay 24, 2021Great stay with your doggies
Right on the beach, and St Augustine allows dogs 24-7! The rooms are good with mini fridge and microwave. The pool was packed! Good energy. Will be better when staffing is back up to speed and elevator is back in service.
- WilliamApr 5, 2021Good stay
Overall, was a great spot to stay. Hotel seems a little dated but room was good and clean. While there, one elevator was down leaving only one operating so was slow. Restaurant in the hotel had great food so that was convenient
- FlorenciaMar 25, 2021Great location
perfect for pets
- HollyMar 21, 2021Awesome Location, Clean Updated Room, Perfect for Dogs!
We stayed in a pool front room with our 2 Italian Greyhounds. The room was clean and modern
- TheresaFeb 15, 2021Great location
Love the fact that you can walk right onto the beach with your dog. There are dog items with Guy Harvey art in the gift shop. Wish the hotel had dog waste bags. Construction was still going on at the hotel.
- GinaJan 6, 2021Great Location
Very clean rooms and just steps away from the beach - we enjoyed our stay with our two dogs and will definitely go back!
- AndreaSep 25, 2020Lovely place and friendly staff
I stayed for 4 nights last week (Sept 13-17 2020). I had my little old blind dog Festus with me. Everyone I met who worked there was super friendly. My room was very clean and appeared recently remodeled or updated. The entire experience was really wonderful and I can't think of one negative thing to say about it. Lots of folks had their dogs but it was peaceful and quiet and everyone was respectful. I am already planning next year. I know there are some not so great reviews...I saw them too and it made me hesitate. But I'm so glad I decided to go and find out for myself.
- JodyMay 25, 2020Dog Tolerant, Great Location
I am writing this purely for Dog Friendliness. We experienced rude check in, were told we didn't book a pet room and to come back in 4 hours. I produced my reservation and was told to come back. There is no designated business area for dogs, was told to find some grass. No dining option or happy hour as shown on the website (but COVID affected a lot of things). 4 hours later, wonderful new crew was on and extremely dog friendly. We were put on the 4th floor, carpeted room. We brought a blanket and sheet to cover the beds, all else was as expected. The location is great
- KathleenFeb 29, 2020No ocean view rooms for guests with pets.
Pet rooms are all on first floor on sides only - so that’s disappointing. Our room door would not lock and remote didn’t work - after 1/2 hour of waiting on repairs, we were given another room and comp’d the pet fee for the inconvenience. Location is right on the beach and although the rooms are disappointing (old, furniture marred, in need of a paint job) they are clean and the hotel is undergoing some renovations as others have stated. The common areas are nice and they offered to extend our check out time which gave us an extra hour of morning beach time. Great area.
- LynnFeb 26, 2020Resort 3. Room 2
Nice main building with restaurant and bar. Beach access. Rooms very worn. Housekeeping a no show day prior to departure.
- KellyJan 3, 2020Guy Harvey Hotel - not great
When we first arrived, the person at the front desk was rude and short with us. We were originally promised a room on the 1st floor, but when she found out we booked thru bringfido she said that our reservation hadn’t come through to their system yet and we’d need to wait at least an hour, or so. We stayed in good spirits in the lobby. After waiting the required hour to do our check in, there were (all of a sudden, within that hour) no more first floor rooms available for us. We checked into our 4th floor room which was, at best, clean. We were NOT impressed with the room at all - we’ve stayed in much nicer hotels at less cost.
The dog walking area was minuscule at best - only available on one side of the building in which we stayed. Parking was atrocious, too. Very few places for the number of rooms in our building. I’m not sure where they expected people to park.
We stayed one night. When we called the front desk at 10:20 am to ask if we could have an extended check-out, the rude front desk person made it clear that the answer was NO. Not even the option to pay for an extended checkout!
I don’t think I’ve ever been treated so rudely by a hotel front desk in my life. I would say STEER CLEAR of Guy Harvey Hotel
- DanielleNov 30, 2019Great people
Nice beach. Loved it.
- DianeOct 4, 2019Great stay
Very pet friendly, greeted our Molly with a treat. Rooms are clean and spacious. Pets are allowed outside the restaurant on patio. Loved the fact that a quick walk through pool area was beach and beach was pet friendly. Close to a lot of restaurants which have outside patio which your pet is welcome. Would stay here again.
- RafaelFeb 10, 2019Pleasant enough
Went two nights for the weekend to meet with family and enjoy downtown St. Augustine.
Our two shitzus were welcomed and we stayed in one of their "doggy rooms" (115). We met several well behaved doggies staying at the hotel. The room is modern, but beds are lumpy.
The beach is a short walk thru pool area. Area for dogs to relief themselves is ample and right by the rooms (adjacent to parking).
In all our stay was pleasant. Downtown St. Augustine is an absolute heaven for doggy owners. Many restaurants advertise "pet friendly" and even have water bowls by entrance as if inviting them in.
Please note that dogs are NOT allowed to hang around pool nor any of the other guest congregating areas. So you really cant enjoy the restaurant nor the pool as you would have to leave dog in the room. This is common to many hotels who allow dogs so not a put down, just a fact so you can plan accordingly.
Wish someone would realize that as is one will spend their restaurant dollars on dog friendly surrounding restaurants which abound.
In sum, my pups approved of the place but there is room for improvement.
