    Great location and dog friendly

As the only dog friendly resort on Mackinac Island, I was a little skeptical that it would really be pro-dog since there were no other options outside of an Airbnb, but they were wonderful. We chose the “pooch at the point” package which included a welcome gift containing a small collapsible dog bowl and a roll of poop bags.

The island is rich in history and the buildings reflect that, so they aren’t all super modern or updated. Having said that, the buildings were clean and beautiful, and the rooms were cozy. Our room was in the Straits Lodge and had baseboard heating that didn’t seem to have controls, and a portable AC unit that was vented out of the wall. The unit competed with the heater in getting the room to a temperature we were comfortable with, but it was never unbearable. The ac unit is a bit loud, but it actually turned out to be a huge perk for us as it helped drown out the noises outside that made our dog bark.

The doors are old using physical keys instead of the key cards, and there is a slight gap underneath where light and noise can come through a bit. It didn’t bother us much, but our dog of course noted every noise. A rolled up towel pushed against it and it wasn’t an issue.

There wasn’t a microwave in the room, but other than that we had no problems. Bed and pillows were comfortable, and we could even see the lake from our room. Easy access to the outside for potty breaks, and the first floor had a coffee shop.

We only dined at the Round Island Kitchen, but they had two patio areas that accommodated dogs. We always chose the one with the least number of people. We saw that some dogs were provided a water bowl but ours was kept in a stroller and didn’t get/need one. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. We did have a $100 credit for the package we chose, and it paid for our meal. The patio overlooks the great green lawn with Adirondack chairs and Lake Huron, which is incredibly beautiful and picturesque. After eating, going to the great lawn for potty and walking was a wonderful after-meal exercise.

The resort also offers pet-sitting, although we did not use it. The employees volunteer, so only those who want to watch pets will ever actually be assigned to do so, and the price we were quoted was $16/hour.

Overall, we were pleased. The resort offered exactly what we were looking for and it was a wonderful trip. We went during October, so the season was nearing the end and you could tell with the few people on the island and in the resort. But the weather was perfect, the autumn colors were straight out of a hallmark movie, and fewer people meant less crowding in the smaller shops and less waits in restaurants.

    Wonderful Resort

This place is absolutely incredible. They treated us like royalty and the whole experience was above and beyond. The dogs pretty much got to go anywhere they wanted. Rooms were clean, property was immaculate. Highly recommend the restaurant. Really good food and excellent view with the dogs on the deck.

    First class resort

I always dismissed Mission Point as being to far from the downtown activities we love. Our new baby Günther requires us to find a pet friendly option on the island and we struck gold. Mission Point is a gorgeous resort with incredible friendly service and tremendous amenities. The coffee shop in the lobby of the Straits Lodge is a perfect option for breakfast, picnic lunch pick-up, or an evening snack. Walks on the Great Lawn and romps I’m the waves of the Straits of Mackinac are memories we will never forget. Thank you Mission Point!

    Great place for dogs

Mission point allows for dog sitting if you know your plans contact them 24 hours ahead to arrange this!! If your dog is quiet they can get away with staying in the room — cannot react to other dogs though as they seemed to be in the same hallway!!

Great stay at the Mission Point Resort

Great place if you are on the Island with your pets. We have two Keeshonds and they had a great time at the Mission Point Resort. Dogs are allowed to hang out with us in the lobby for a early evening cocktail and many places on the island are dog friendly.

    Wander with your Furr Friend

The Mission Point Resort was welcoming to our pets making it easy to eat in restaurants as well as rent bikes and a pet wagon to bike on the island!

    Great Dog-Friendly Resort

The moment I read that Mission Point Resort was dog friendly, I immediately decided that this is where we were going to vacation. I was not disappointed.

My first trip through the front door, I saw a dog leisurely sitting on a lobby sofa surrounded by his family who were enjoying glasses of wine. Our two dogs were welcomed and were allowed just about everywhere at the resort and on the island in general. They were served in the lobby, Boxwood Cafe and at all outdoor patios. The servers brought them water at each meal. And when we needed a break from them, Pat, the Concierge, was able to find a pet sitter. Holly, the sitter, made our dogs at home in her room and sent us text updates to let us know how they were doing.

If you can't bring your dog, the resort has a resident Border Collie so you can get your dog-fix.

The resort has an old fashioned, classy feel to it. The staff service was superb and we couldn't be happier with our stay. We had an excellent time!

    Blue approves of the Point

We loved Mission Point! Straights Lodge was the perfect area for dog families! Not right in the center of activities which made it nice when taking him out! The provided the dog with a Carhartt bed which Blue adapted to quickly! Very nice, quaint. We’re already looking forward to our next trip!!

    Accommodated but pricey

We were put in the extreme end of the resort for pet people. Family suite in the Straits Lodge was billed as Straits view but we got a view of a hedge 10 feet away. All at a very high cost especially the pet fee of $10 per stay. But we were at least on the island with our pet. The “wholly refurbished” building is still pretty basic but the bed was comfortable.

    Rooms 5 Star

Staff at check in dog friendly.
Rooms freshly updated and located close to grassy area. They have dog sitters if needed.
Restaurant was limited to certain tables but not really a big deal. There are a few outdoor restaurants located in town. Dogs allowed on horse taxis. Dog friendly town.

Mission Point I’ll be Dog Gone!

I read the reviews for Mission Point and chose that as our destination based upon them. However, I was very disappointed. It was not as pet friendly as these reviews will lead you to believe. The Mission Point Restaurants do not bring your pets water, and they have certain pet friendly tables for you and your loved pet in the full sun. My dog was not the only one needing water after trying to eat an overpriced meal in the baking sun. They acted as though that it was inconvenience for them to have to seat you with a pet ( I have a small Bichon). I have a problem with this based upon there websites view of pets. It was very deceiving. Also, the room was unclean (bathroom), I had to fix the shower drain ( I didn’t charge for that!), the beds are so small, and the makeshift air conditioning unit was extremely loud. It is a shame to pay the prices that they charge for such shoddy accommodations and absolutely no great pet accommodations. The Island is pretty, but if you can find somewhere else to go I would. It only takes a day or two and it’s boring!
