I think the hotel staff are honestly trying, and the problems have more to do with their clientele. They’ve clearly made an effort to keep the place clean, but there were a lot of indications of problem visitors. Our non-smoking room had clearly been smoked in; a visitor let their dog do their business in the hallway near our room overnight and didn’t clean it up; and the outdoor area had a fair amount of old dog feces that people hadn’t cleaned up. That said, there was no visible dirt or debris in the room or public areas. The staff just seemed to be fighting a losing battle with some irresponsible dog owners.

I chose to stay at an Extended Stay America because of a previous good experience. This was the opposite. The room was poorly cleaned (hair on the tub drain, dried food grunge on the chairs, dirt around the edges of furnishings and a food wrapper under the bed - which my dog immediately discovered). Although it had a kitchenette, there were no plates, bowls, glasses, cups, utensils, cookware, coffee maker or dish soap, so what use was it? The only positive things I can say was it was conveniently located, the beds were clean, and it accepted dogs.

The only grass was along the road, which was full of debris. Was not impressed with the other guests, which I know the hotel has no control over. I did not feel safe.
