  Unpleasant check-in

  When I walked in to check-in, there wasn’t anyone at the front desk. No sign on counter saying they had stepped away. I stood there for 5-10 minutes waiting for someone. Finally a woman came walking in from outside. I had actually seen her standing outside smoking with a man -- didn’t realize she worked at the hotel. She reeked of weed. Never smiled once. Our room was basic but wasn’t clean by my standards. The pet area is in the far back of the hotel. All the areas right around the hotel have rocks for mulch.

  Good Stopover on I-95

  First impression/curb appeal was good upon entry. Lobby area quite impressive compared to equivalent hotels. As another reviewer indicated, the small grassy area for dogs was way in the back of the parking lot and shared with the hotel next door. If a guest has a pet and also any mobility issues or is elderly, this is not a good fit in terms of location. Ideally, a pet area would be a fenced area to promote/encourage pet owners in cleaning up after their dogs, the ability to let a dog free if there are no other dogs around, and demonstrate to other guests who don't have pets that there is a designated area to prevent them from accidentally stepping on dog poop that hasn't been cleaned up by pet owners. There was a doggie bag dispenser and it was stocked. A little scoop (like a plastic ice scoop) would be nice to have as well. Ultimately, I'd stay here again and appreciate La Quinta's being a pet-friendly hotel chain. The room not having carpet is an excellent idea too.

  Everything was fine. The room, the noise level, the breakfast. The small grassy area was waaaayy in the back of the parking lot and shared with the hotel next door. Fortunately there were only a couple other dogs around during our stay, but could be a problem during the busy season. No poop bags.

  Needs a little TLC

  So first off, the loss of a bone here is simply because things like the bathroom and the beds could use maintenance. Had to hold down the handle to flush toilet, and the bedframe was loud when you were getting on and off the bed, or even rolling over. It would squeak and pop, so kind of annoying. Otherwise it's a decent place. No real worries about safety, and the rooms and lobby were nice and clean. There were fresh cookies at the front desk and the employees were pleasant enough. A little TLC and this could easily be a 5 bone place.

  Pros: Check-in was easy. Location for pets to relive themselves is large and kept clean. Pet fee was minimal ($10 per pet). Breakfast was good. Cons: 2nd floor room (202) was noisy as a result of traffic on 95 and 52.

  Nice stay

  Travel weary, I mistakenly walked into the Days Inn next door which was kinda shabby. So happy to learn my reservation was next door. Clean, fresh cookies, dog park, workout room for my wife to do her yoga, decent breakfast, and right off I-95. Brian was very friendly and helped get our bikes into our room and gave us a good choice for takeout which delivered to LQ. Not many food choices at this exit. We would stay here again.

  Using Bring Fido, I was able to travel from NY to FL and when I was tired pulled over and jumped on the app and secured a hotel a few miles away for me and my son's dog. Great experience. La Quinta was clean. The staff was friendly and just had a really good experience.

  Upon arrival I had to wait 10 min for someone to come to the counter to check in. Room was outdated but clean. Laundry machine didn’t work. Breakfast a bit dirty. Didn’t have any toothpaste left bc I forgot mine. Telephone in room didn’t work.

  Never seen so many dogs!

  4 stars as hotel, 5 bones for a hotel with a dog. The room was clean, beds and pillows were fine, we appreciated that the floors were tile. Plenty of space for our Lab to be comfy and for his bed. Dog area out back was a great place for the pooch to relieve himself. Lots of people traveling with their dogs. Staying there again on way back home.

  Price was right for bringing pets but everything was so dirty and smelly. There was trash piled up outside in the hallway, the floor in our room was filthy, the sheets were dirty, bathroom was barely functional, and breakfast was stale. Would not stay again ever.

  Last minute stop and we were happy we did. Room was clean and large enough. They take big dogs which is a must, as we have a German Shepherd. She loves to travel and enjoyed her stay as much as we did. We would stay again!

  Convenient location, right off 95. We had a room with a queen bed and sleep sofa (which we didn’t need) giving us more room than we usually get. Nice grassy area for dogs. Hoping to be able to book same room for trip home. Definitely would stay again.

  We stay at La Quinta a lot as they are very dog friendly with reasonable pet fees. However, there were issues with this one. We were not able to regulate the room temperature and the internet didn’t work. The staff however was great. The location was good.

  Great experience! The lady at the front desk (Kat) was very warm and welcoming, and everyone who met our doggo (Maximus) was so friendly! The rooms had hardwood floors, the beds were fresh, the decor modern, the bathrooms sparkling clean, the pet relief area was well looked after, breakfast was yummy. Everything added up to an amazing stay. 10/10 would recommend!

  They did a nice job renovating; laminate flooring was perfect (no pet smell!) Clean! Large room with king bed and couch, microwave and fridge with little freezer section. Pet area is a little far, way in back, so better for smaller dogs to go out front to a couple of grassy areas there. $10 pet fee best deal in town, and the staff loved our dog!

  Our room was very outdated and not very clean. It was extremely loud so sleep was non existent. Had to get dressed to go to front desk because nobody was answering phone to complain about excessive noise. Staff were not helpful. Never again!

  We were greeted warmly by front desk. They really love having dogs! They had a fresh bowl of water waiting for our pup during check in. They put us on the 1st floor by the door which was very convenient. There is a big grassy area in the back complete with waste station and poop bags. The room was clean, with small fridge and microwave. This was a great stop for an overnight as we were driving from Florida to NJ. Defiantly will stay again

  No frills, basic accommodations. That said, Florence is generally a 1 night stop for many people traveling the I-95 corridor. For a multiple night visit, you may wish to look at the newer pet friendly hotels in the area.

  First time staying here and I think it will be our new stopover when heading to/from FL. Super dog friendly, rooms have flooring not carpet, which is fabulous. I wish more hotels would do this. Our room was very clean, AC worked great, and except the occasional door slam, it was very quiet. The breakfast was good. Staff were very friendly. Nice dog walk area, but why can’t people pick up after their dogs!? Very inconsiderate. The hotel even supplies bags! Overall a great place.

  We stayed while driving to Florida with our dog. Would have given it 5 bones but the dog walking area in back of hotel had a lot of dog poop not picked up. The hotel provides bags and trash barrel but some dog owners are lazy. Ultimately it is hotel’s responsibility to make sure this area is picked up. Rooms were clean staff was nice and breakfast awesome. Just be careful where you walk.

  Our prepaid room was filthy

  We had an extremely 'unpleasant surprise' when we arrived at the La Quinta in Florence, SC last night. After driving from Philadelphia for 12 hours I walked into the hotel and went to the front desk where the night manager warned me that our room - the only unoccupied room left in the hotel - 'might not be clean.' He offered to give us a set of sheets so we could make up our own room - just what we were looking forward to at 11 PM after an exhausting all day drive. I declined after which he offered to let me let me inspect the room which I did only to find it filthy with unchanged sheets, dirty bathroom, etc. Needless to say we had no choice but to leave, and after calling 20 other hotels in the Florence area we ended up having to drive 2 hours to Columbia, SC where we finally were able to find a room - a much more expensive one - at 1 AM

  Staff and maintenance issues

  We always stay at La Quinta in Florence SC with our fur baby. Usually I'm very satisfied. Last night we had trouble with the TV. I tried to call the front desk numerous times, and no one answered. I got so frustrated I went down to the office. The guy working said he's too busy to answer the phone. Said he was the only person working! This was New Years Eve night. He said a tech would need to fix my TV and they aren't in.
  I know there is an employee shortage, but where was a Manager? Also the drawer next to the bed, kept constantly opening. It would not stay shut. The Hotel definitely needs some TLC in cleanliness and maintenance.

  Right off the highway with gas stations and Starbucks nearby. Hotel room definitely needs some updating. Our sheets looked used (crumbs, hair) so I had to go get fresh sheets from the front desk. Not a fan of changing my sheets at 11pm after driving all day but the lady at the desk was very apologetic.

  There was a short line at check-in but the person working was speedy and friendly. The room was clean and there is a decent sized grass area for walking the dogs. There is some noise, but nothing too bad - it's a motel. I slept just fine. Would stay again.

  We arrived around 1, but check-in time wasn’t until 3. My dog and I walked the property for a bit to stretch our legs. I was surprised to see that the “fenced dog area” was not fenced in. It was an open area, but we were still glad they had a good sized area for potty breaks. The hotel books families with dogs on the first floor. The room was clean and the bed smelled fresh and clean. The staff was very nice as well. The breakfast was awesome, especially when he had to get back on the road early. The only reason that I am giving 4/5 bones is because the description of the dog area was misleading when it stated “fenced” I assumed it was a fenced in area. Not just an open area with a fence along the woods line. I would stay here again :)

  This La Quinta is a bit old but it’s been updated and they keep it clean. There’s a space behind the parking lot for dogs that isn’t fenced in but there are poop bags and trash cans. Staff was friendly and helpful. There are a number of food and coffee options nearby as well.

  Great place for pets

  First of all, the pet fee for our little 18 year old Chihuahua was reasonable, only $10. Some of the “former” hotels we used to stay at went up to as high as $75. Are you kidding me? Know what that means? I’ll tell you: “We don’t want pets!” The room was clean…no smell. They are smart…the use luxury vinyl plank flooring, instead of carpet. Easy to clean and disinfect….and nice for us. Our little guy is 18. He does business, comes in, gets up on the bed, and he is asleep for the night. Could you ever imagine paying $75 for that??? Geez!

  Loud and Uncomfy

  For starters, we had a late night check-in, around 12:30am. We never received dog treats, or anything specific to bringing a dog (which, maybe I misunderstood the expectations). Our room was on the first floor, right next to the elevators and communal bathrooms for the hotel… nonetheless, it was BEYOND loud. I’m not sure if the walls are made of paper, but people were having a conversation and it was vibrating off the walls from 1-2:30am. Also, the front door to our room didn’t feel very secure, it moved a lot, even with a lock and there was no sealing to it - as I could see light shining through all seams. Next up, the bed. Definitely needs replaced, I could feel the shape of all bodies that have slept there for who knows how long. Essentially it was lumpy and hard. I’ll give it to them, the pillows were comfy. Another expectation I had was a dog park behind the hotel. There’s a grassy area, but no fencing to be let off leash. Are there worse places to rest your head on a 16 hours drive up the coast? Yes. However, my expectations seemed relative to the price I paid for this room.

  We stay here at least once a year. Everything was good, the room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful. But, there was a slight funk in the hallway. Other than that, our stay was great.

  The beds and linens were clean

  But there was a lot of dirt on the floor, a fake fingernail and a piece of sausage on the floor. At 4:30 am a “couple” came in screaming and talking loudly on the phone and to each other in derogatory language, so we were up for the day. I would say it was just okay. The dog area was nice and the price was good enough.

  Comfortable stay

  The pups and I stayed here after an event and it was wonderful. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable room. Floors were not carpet (but not slick at all) so that was a very pleasant surprise. It was safe. no crazy high pet fees. All in all this is a wonderful, reasonably priced hotel.

  Staff doesn't wear masks

  If we weren't in a pandemic, I would give it 5 bones. But the nice man who checked me in wore his mask pulled down below his nose (so whats the point?), the housekeeping staff I saw in the hallway had no mask, and the person refilling things at the continental breakfast had no mask. Despite what Corporate advertises, the staff at this location do not take precautions to stop the spread of Covid. Regardless of their personal beliefs, they should be aware that it is important to some guests. But the rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. Wish the continental breakfast was a bit better. But the coffee was good. Also, the mini fridge also had a tiny freezer, so we could refreeze our ice packs for the cooler. Most mini fridges in hotels don't have that, so that was a nice surprise.

  We were very happy to see a hotel that believes in customer service. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I will gladly stay at La Quinta Inn and Suites in Florence, SC. on my return trip.

  Bad experience

  Hotel has been updated. The gentleman at the front desk during check-in very friendly. Room looked clean for the most part the issue was when we went to sleep the bed. Sheets and pillowcases looked clean but the pillows had a distinct sweat funk odor, probably on the pillow itself not the pillowcase but should have been caught. Cleanup begs to think what else was missed. If not for this it would have been 4-5 bones.

  Location was great but very disappointed with our room. It was super dirty. Bedsheets were full of dog hair. I had to go and get clean bed sheets at front desk bc they didn't even offer to bring them to us.

  Convenient & Clean; Good for Pets

  Just off I-81, convenient and surprisingly quiet. Big patch of lawn out back for the pups. I was assigned to a room with easy access to back entrance (key pass required). No carpeting, which is great for dogs. Clean, contemporary furnishings. Comfy bed. Nice continental breakfast to get you going on the next stretch of your road trip.

  Unsafe! Do not stay!

  I should have listened to the other reviews…the room had an outlet coming out of the floor that had wires exposed everywhere. Someone slashed our luggage straps and stole our bags right from the front parking lot of the hotel…front desk didn’t act surprised….also cameras don’t work!

  Driving from RI to Florida we booked an overnight stay here because they were pet friendly. Room was immaculate and was happy to see no carpet in a pet friendly room. Floor was a laminate floor, no smelly carpet from other dogs. Highly recommend this hotel.

  The hotel was clean overall. We got unlucky and our room had sticky floors and stains on the wooden furniture. Somehow it was too much noise all night long: from our neighbors, from other people on our floor, from the train. They had a great breakfast, real boiled egg, banana, muffin, coffee.

  This place is old and needs a facelift, the doors falling apart, tub liners over old tile, moldy caulk - the usual old hotel syndrome. They’re keeping it clean though.

  Had issues checking in. I had to call BringFido and they straightened out everything, thank you! Front desk staff, young male and female were rude, would not help, were argumentative. Place is nice.

  Despite dealing with a power-failure when we checked in, this hotel was very nice. Our room was bright and clean, as were all common areas. Workers here were nice. Breakfast a bit limited, but that was presumably pandemic related. Saw lots of other dogs. All were well behaved! 🐾

  Hotel touted as 100% smoke free but our room reeked of smoke. Room could have been cleaner (baseboards dusty), the bed creaked, the a/c system was loud when it turned on. Very nice dog area. Front desk staff offered to change our room. I expected a little better for the price.

  We stayed her on May 6, 2021 and was very disappointed. The lobby was clean and the staff very friendly. When we got to our room it was dirty, the bathroom door looked like somebody took a hammer to it. The bathroom was very dirty not only the floor but the walls. There was not coffee, Kleenex, etc. When it came time to take our dog out there was not a convenient place for them to go. We will not be staying here again.

  Check-in is at 3pm. I showed up slightly after that. I was told that my request for adjoining rooms wasn't documented or could even be executed. At least got two rooms near each other. However, there were crumbs on the floor, general flooring hasn't been scrubbed or mopped in a while. Do not walk barefoot! "Continental breakfast" (understandably during a pandemic) is a brown bag with a nutrigrain bar and a small muffin. TV channels lacking. Confirmation email of itinerary said checkout was at noon. Front desk told me 11. Overall, a crappy experience.

  I gave this two bones for convenience and the lovely friendly man who check me in. Otherwise this is the worst La Quinta I've stayed in and I've stayed in a lot of them. The first sign of what was to come was the when the elevator door closed and I saw it clearly hadn't been cleaned in ages. There was even some dried liquid sprayed across the top of the elevator! (How did that get there?) The room had crumbs on the floor and the floor was so sticky my feet stuck to it as I walked. (Never took my shoes off.) The bathroom had old cracked grout in the shower. All of the wood was dinged up. The sofa had stains. Just not up to La Quinta's usual standards.

  Love the hard floors as carpeting always feels gross. Floor was sticky in places, so could have been cleaner. Only problem for me was a side door that had been propped open to allow workmen in. BIG security hazard. When I reported it at 6 pm, (no workman around) nothing was done.

  Clean and Convenient

  We look forward to stopping at this La Quinta on our drives from Maine to Florida. It is conveniently just off I-95, the staff is pleasant, the rooms are clean and attractive and the grounds are well kept. The only downside is that it is on a busy road without a sidewalk, so dog walking is limited to the grounds.

  I travel through Florence often with my two dogs and this hotel was my least favorite. There was carpet in the rooms, the pet area in the back was badly lit and full of trash and the staff did not seem to agree with the chain's "pet friendly" stand. More importantly when we stayed someone had left their two dogs in the car overnight and the poor things barked all night. It was beyond heart-breaking. I usually stay in one of the smaller places an exit before or after where there is more space and less traffic to walk the dogs and you can just open the door and walk the dogs out.

  The room was very clean and quite. The hotel is located directly off 95 which worked well for our midway stop on our trip. There is a dog walk area behind the hotel which is not fenced but served our needs. Will definitely stay here on future trips.

  The hotel was a little nicer than La Quinta’s I’ve stayed in before. The location was very convenient right off the highway, but it’s on a busy road, so we had to walk our dog around the parking lot. There is a grassy dog area, but it’s not fenced, so we couldn’t let her off leash to run. Would still stay again if in the area since the price was great.

  Staff very friendly, ground floor location was good, room was dated but basically clean. Had to clean knobs, handles and switches, but we always do that. AC was on and there was no odor. The luggage carts were strange and very difficult to handle if your fur buddy needs their crate to sleep in. But at least they were available.

  Hotel and the room were clean. The staff was very nice. The only problem was that we did not get much sleep because of the trucks of what we think were construction workers reving their engines and coming and going in their trucks at night. The train going by woke us up too. Sorry, it would have been be a better rating, if we it was not so loud outside at night.

  Easy contactless access. Clean room, newly remodeled building (parts still in progress). In age of Coronavirus they only have coffee service and a bag breakfast but would definitely com back. Only thing that prevented five bones was a few pieces of trash left in room from previous occupants.

  this is one of the nicest LaQintas we have been in. We ravel with two well behaved labs..the room was really nice with extra chairs and floor space. The new manager was personable and responded within 20 minutes to a light bulb that needed to be replaced. Parking, breakfast, and area for dogs were all positive.

  La Quinta Inn is always a pleasant stay. We like the fact that there are not rugs in the room- less fuss with dogs.
  They now charge $10 per dog and the money goes to a local animal shelter.

  We stayed at this La Quinta site two times in the month of December. We had a wonderful experience. Friendly staff, and a nice hot breakfast. I wish the doggie park at the back of the hotel had been fenced but the doggies enjoyed that they had a place for them.

  I was so disappointed that Wyndham imposed a pet fee at La Quinta hotels. It was the greatest marketing strategy. Many La Quintas jumped to $20. Gladly, however, this La Quinta hotel only charged $10 AND posted that they would donate the money to shelters! I can live with that! Nice room, area in the back to walk, poop bags available, friendly staff. Lots of eateries around. Stayed here other times, will stay again.

  The staff was warm and welcoming. There were dogs everywhere, and a large field behind to walk the dogs. The only downside was there was quite a bit of barking going on all night long. The rooms were adequate and clean.

  Have stayed with pets at various La Quinta but this one in Florence was a sad tired looking facility which may not have been too clean. The service at the front desk was indifferent at best. Will not use again.

  I seem to be posting similar comments on many of the properties we visit - positive regarding staff, but just adequate regarding rooms, mostly due to being outdated and in need of repair or refurbishment. Could it be that pet owners are being shunted to these rooms, vs nice ones, as a matter of policy? I wonder if others are having a similar experience.

  Nice staff - wrong room and not clean

  The staff was great, but the room I was initially give had someone in it. Scary for the guest in the room at 11pm. In the room I was given, there was food in the refrigerator and water on the floor.
  However, the staff was great and apologized for the mix up. I was offered a discount, but it wasn’t followed through or actually given.

  Great! Wonderful For Pets!

  The gentleman that checked us in was phenomenal. SO NICE!! Very accommodating and sweet. The room was so conveniently located (he put a lot of thought as to where to put us to make it easier to get in and out of with an infant and a dog. The room was so clean and perfect for our stay. There was a dog park for dogs to go— which was clean. The free breakfast was so good! Eggs, waffles, yogurts, muffins, toast - COFFEE!! Perfect! Bed was so comfortable too. Slept great for the first time in months. La Quinta is now our preferred hotel on our travels. Thank you!!

  This place is a definite yes if you’re in the area. Not like typical dirty La Quintas. Huge, we’ll manicured did area out back. And it’s almost all people with pets so word has gotten out. The staff brings their pets to work too. What’s not to like?!?

  This hotel loves dogs. We brought 2 pugs. We stayed one night on our way from Virginia to Florida. Room is well appointed, clean, and comfortable. Dog biscuits in the lobby and a large grassy area out back with clean up supplies. This will be our family’s go to hotel whenever we want to break up our drives south.

  Clean Hotel, Stupid Policies?

  Pet friendly yes. If your dog has his barker removed. Checked in and cleaned up after our 15 hours trek. Did our dog diligence (walked him fed him, settled him in.). Went 4 doors down for dinner, but got two phone calls in 4 minutes about our dog barking, and there’s a $25 fee for barking.

  I got news for ya. There were at least a dozens barking dogs in the wing we were we on. Go back to the hotel to bring our dog with us, and guess what, he was laying down quietly on his bed.

  Oh, it was 745pm. I could see if it was 10pm plus... Pet friendly? Sorta.

  Hotel room was super clean. No carpet in rooms makes it a big plus. There was a specific dog area with doggy bags for clean up.
  Hotel employees were friendly.
  Plenty of dogs in the doggie area but you wouldn’t know it when you are in your room.

  Just Right!

  Clean and newly renovated. Spacious room with a couch. Wonderfully welcoming staff, places to eat nearby, and of course, very pet-friendly.

  Bed was quite comfortable - got a restful night’s sleep. Quiet place, considering how many pets were inhabiting other rooms.

  Breakfast was tasty, and included real scrambled eggs. No pet fee!

  Will definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.
