Fine for a few hours, but won't be returning

I came into town for a funeral and needed 4 hours of day care for my 6-pound Mi-Ki. The staff was very kind and professional, and even asked for my dog's shot records before I was allowed to look around the facility, which I liked. They seemed concerned about providing a safe environment. I asked to tour the facility in full, but they would only show me their outdoor play area. As it was in the high 90's outside, the outdoor play yard was empty, which was a good thing for the safety of the dogs. However, when I asked if I could see the indoor play yard, they would not allow me. I was told "It's in a different section of the building". The place seemed clean and the staff was nice, and as I was short on time (due to the unexpected nature of my trip), when I returned the next day, I dropped my dog off in the morning. They assured me that he would be kept separate from the larger dogs. After the funeral, I returned 4 hours later to pick him up. Their rates were very fair-- $16 for the visit. Before they brought him out, I asked if I could go into the back to see how he was faring with the other dogs. This was his first doggy daycare experience, and I wanted to see how he did. Again, I was told I could not go back to view the area. They did mention that there are pictures online I could see, like on Facebook. When my dog was returned to me, he was in good spirits and seemed no worse for the wear. I was glad his time away seemed fine. Overall I was happy with my experience, but I'm very concerned at the staff's unwillingness to let potential or current customers see their play indoor area. Other dog daycare places in my area even have live web cams, allowing people to see how the dogs are doing. If I return to Wilmington I will not be using The Dog House, but I am grateful that my dog seemed to do okay while he was with them this week.

    previous worker

Do NOT bring your dogs here. Coming from someone who worked here and was fired for doing things that most of the workers seem to do. Workers are constantly on their phones, yelling at the dogs and hitting them, basically ignoring them completely untill one does something thats “annoying”. Coming from someone who actually genuinely got to know the dogs there and enjoyed spending time with them, I would not recommend letting these immature and biased people care for your pet.

Dog Attacked- Other Dog NOT Banned

We have been taking our Great Dane puppy to The Dog House to play since he was just a few months old. He's is almost 10 months now. This morning, shortly after I dropped him off, I got a call from them stating "another dog had gone after" our dog and he had some bleeding punctures around hi neck and on his ear. She assured me our dog did nothing wrong and that he was fine and did not need vet attention or to even be picked up. Feeling nervous, I contacted my vet for advice. The vet recommend that I bring him in as dog bites carry a very high risk of infection. Following their recommendation I went to The Dog House to pick our dog up. Upon arrival, I spoke with the same employee that called me. I told her the vet recommended that he be seen. She responded by LAUGHING at me and stating that her dogs get similar punctures all the time and are "fine." Who is she to override the vets recommendation ? Pretty sure there is no DVM behind her name.
I asked if the other dog would be allowed back and she said yes, but not to worry because they put in a note that our two dogs should be separated. Having been assured that my dog did nothing to provoke the attack this is very concerning. What about other people's dogs? I was then told that the other dog probably went after mine because my dog isn't neutered yet and is "big." I clarified that their rule was no unFixed dogs over 1 year. She stated that was true, but again that our dog was "big." I guess that makes it ok?
While we realize that things can happen with any bunch of dogs, The Dog House handled the situation very poorly. There should be a zero tolerance policy against aggressive dogs. Clearly the that is not the case. When a dog is injured in their care, they should be supportive of the owners desire to follow veterinarian recommendations. Never once did we receive any kind of apology, but were instead told to bring our dog back once he was neutered so he wouldn't be a target. So backwards! Needless to say we will not be taking our dog back. Our dog had to have his neck shaved, wounds cleaned, and is now on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I'm a night shift nurse and also had to call out of work to deal with this situation. Very disappointed all around.
