Never again will I use them

My wife took our dog to get a consultation for a knee injury. This is the 3rd time we have used this Vet to treat our dogs. After our dog had her 1st surgery on her knee and after we had another dog get surgery on his knee, we wanted to let this hospital treat our dogs again. Last Saturday, my wife went to Gulf Coast and got a consultation for our dog to get her scheduled for another knee surgery. The staff took over $200 for a fee to tell us that we would need to wait 3 weeks before we could get our dog a surgery date and that our dog needed to lose weight before the Doctor would operate on her. We asked if we could use another doctor who was available to do the procedure sooner and was told that we would need to pay another $200 plus for a second consultation? We asked of the 1st vet could share their notes with their colleague, because we work during the week and wanted to get our dog scheduled in less time due to her suffering. This was not acceptable for them. So, after we have spent over $15,000 dollars for your services over the last couple of years , you want to make our little dog suffer for 3 weeks so the 1st doctor can go on vacation? You would not waive the 2nd consultation fee and let the 2nd doctor schedule a surgery until we make another appt and paid another $200 plus consultation fee? So, this is how you nickel and dime your customers? Hear this Gulf Coast Vet- You made my wife very angry and cry. We love our pets and will pay to get them the care they need. We will not let someone take advantage of us by nickel and diming us and to disrespect and delay the care we need for our dog. If you think that that this was fair to us, then let’s hope that we decide to use your services in the future. Paying you over $200 for a consultation and have a Vet tell us that our dog needs to wait 3 more weeks for this procedure because she is overweight and the doctor needs a vacation, sound like you do not care about our family and only about more $$$ and your convenience. Thank God we live in Houston and there are many other Vets that we can give our hard-earned money to care for our dogs. Signed, a not so happy past customer. You may know who we are, but I doubt you will ever care about this review. Maybe other readers will.

The worst experience of my life

I recently went through a terrible experience with Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialist in Houston and I want to help others by not having to go through the same experience I did.

Back story, I have had Jaycie for 14.5 years. She was my first dog and I have had her half of my life (I’m 29 now). We have used GCVS for the past two years due to her medical issues. She got extremely sick on the 19th and we brought her to GCVS for treatment. They told us that her tracheae had collapsed 90% and they would need to see if she would be a candidate for this surgery to help her to breathe.
They had her in an oxygen tank for a few days and they went from telling us she was a candidate to saying she wasn’t.
When months prior her trachea had collapsed 60% and they had told us we shouldn’t worry about it.
(There is more to the story that I can address at another time)
Long story short we were faced with only one option and that was to put our baby to rest. They told us she was in a drug induced coma and she wasn’t wake. My mom was just going to docusign so they could euthanize her. Something told me no and we needed to go up there.

We told them we would be there in an hour and they would have everything ready for us. The employee came and got us to bring us in a room and almost accidentally brought us in a room with another family and their dog. She then brings us back to the waiting room and comes back a few minutes later. We asked her is our dog still sleeping? Is she awake? She had no idea.
She then comes back 10 mins later and takes us in another room. Where we are asked for the fourth time what we would like to do with our dogs remains.
They then proceed to bring her to us AWAKE (after saying she was in a drug induced coma)
Fast forward to after one of the hardest moments of my moms and my life and we clicked the button for them to come get Jaycie.

The same girl comes into the room and asked if we wanted more time with her or we were finished and we told her we were ready.
My mom was sitting down holding Jaycie and asked for me to help pick her up. When I stood up I picked up Jaycie
I then proceed to hear the employee of GCVS start talking about a balance on our account.
I then cut her off and say “okay, this is a little inappropriate right now considering..”
She then proceeds to try to pick a fight with me and starts smarting off to me asking “how is it inappropriate” I then tell her that she had been inappropriate through this entire traumatic experience. She was trying to start a fight with me.
She then says “your dog is peeing on the floor”
This is while I'm currently holding my dog that had just been put down. I have her lifeless body in my hands and this “employee” is standing there with the door half open and a disgusted look on her face looking at my dog and me.
I was so upset I told her to go get someone to help her. Because what am I supposed to do. I can’t put my dog on the floor.
she comes back and was still just extremely rude and hateful and I didn’t even feel comfortable giving her my dog at this point.
My mom proceeds to go outside and I went directly to the front desk and with tears rolling down my face I told them what had just happened.

This happened on Thursday the 26th and I have tried to call GCVS twice and have yet to hear anything back from them. Not only am I dealing with the loss of my dog but I’m also dealing with the hurt of this entire experience. This is a moment that will be burned in my mind forever and I do not want another family to have to experience something so traumatic with an already tragic moment.

    Incompetence and Indifference

I cannot recommend a vet hospital I do not trust. After my experience on June 9th, I can never trust this vet hospital to properly triage a dog again. This hospital missed a life threatening internal bleed, which presented with almost textbook symptoms. Their lack of compassion and desire to learn from their mistakes showed us exactly the type of vet hospital this is.

    they saved our pet

We had a vet in Austin who mis-diagnosed our Rogue with limes disease. Because of this mis-diagnosis Rogue went for almost a year with an absessed tooth. By the time they figured out what was wrong and scheduled her for surgery, she had been running 104 temperature.

When they did the surgery, they released so much bacteria into her system that it exploded a valve on her heart. She still wouldn't eat and was so sick that she couldn't even walk in the park that prior to the surgery she would chase dogs and squirrels.

Finally we drove to Houston and took her to the Gulf Coast Emergency Hospital. They called us at 3 in the morning as Rogue had pneumonia and was dying. They had her in a cage made into an oxygen tent and she was so sick she barely knew we were there. They worked throughout the night and got her consulted by a Cardiologist all on Christmas Eve.

Because of them Rogue is healthy and is running and playing again. She will have to be on heart pills for the rest of her life but would have been dead if not for their around the clock care. Yes, they are expensive but have the qualified care givers working 24/7 and when is that not expensive?
