    Terrible Experience

Horrible experience! Our beautiful little Shih Tzu who is 11 years old, was denied boarding by the owner because she said in her opinion he was too thin and his eyes were dry. She is NOT a Vet at all. She called our vets office and spoke to a Receptionist and got wrong info. about his prior care. Our Vet later called us and apologized saying that his staff should never give info. without speaking to the owner of the pet and knowing that this breed of dog sometimes has dry eyes and that being lean is good for the dog based on the prepared food that we give him. Our dog is very energetic and literally races me down the stairs of our 2-story home at age 11! I cook Riley's food daily and he loves it. My husband walks him 2x per day. We brought his food to Holly Acres all prepared and labeled and the owner tried to push her food, rather than what we prepared. She had said they would feed him our food when we made arrangements. After she denied our little one, we took him to another place that lovingly took him in and we will NEVER go to Holly Acres again. Although my husband and I and our adult daughter tried to explain how healthy and perky our little dog is, Kelley, the owner, adamantly denied boarding him without spending any time with him. She didn't even weigh him! I am so grateful our little sweet dog did not stay there with her but rather at a place that received him, after we left Holly Acres distraught, with love! The next spot examined him, received his food, his little tent, which he loves, his blanket, pillow and toys with joy. We hugged him and walked away wagging his tail. We enjoyed our vacation and so did our dog because the other place said he is a joy and they would love to have him stay with them again. Holly Acres missed out on a beautiful little dog, by denying him boarding, and showed a display of the worst customer service ever! As seen in your Google and Yelp response, that is a clear indication of how you treat and care for your customers. Riley is a boy so obviously you did not read anything that was sent to you. Riley is 11 and our vet has seen him since 2018–he sent us all of his records. Our Vet prescribed Riley’s eye drops so you are wrong. We never mentioned our financial status but that my daughter and I hold Doctorates, mine in Public Health and the owner is admittedly not a VET but yet was making a clinical assessment. Why? Should a dog be denied boarding because of his age? Seems like ageism. Why did you insult the place that kindly took him in after you denied him and accuse them of doing so for “MONEY”when you don’t even know who they are. That seems judgmental and accusatory without fact, which is exactly how you treated us. You denied boarding to our dog and exhibited the worst customer service that I have ever seen and then doubled -down in your response for all to see. Again, we will never attempt to use your services again. We were customers of yours more than 15 years ago with our Golden Retrievers, so we are not familiar with your current practices. Obviously, things have changed and we found loving care for Riley elsewhere, with a place that actually has a Vet on the premises and lots of space for our little one. He came home clean, well-fed with our food, healthy and happy and was prancing and running during his walk. He is a healthy 11-year old dog, who has been loved and cared for by us since he was 6 weeks old, groomed regularly, clinically cared for and yes he got his most recent shots from Miami-Dade Animal Services, which you referred to as the “pound.” I guess you are judging them too. Your biases are even more clear to us now.
