    Experienced & Affordable!

My husband and I took our little cattle dog mix here so we could spend the day together in downtown Gatlinburg. Gerald was very kind and patient, and our little girl seemed excited to stay, as she often is anytime we leave her in daycare, wherever we're traveling. She got overwhelmed at the gate going in when all the dogs rushed her at once and showed her butt a bit when one dog got on top of her. But she shook it off after a "time out" to process and go back in. Gerald was so good with her and understood exactly what had happened, as we wouldn't leave until we knew she was happy to be there. We've always socialized her since she was ten weeks old, but you always worry about a stranger understanding the personality of your own dog. But seven hours later, Gerald was her new best friend! We only called once to check on her, and everyone was getting along and having a blast. She crashed for the night, as we expected, when we got to the hotel room: the sign of a day well spent! We will definitely use Barks and Recreation anytime we're in the area again!

    Awesome in Many Ways!

This was my family's first vacation. We had booked a hotel that was supposed to accept canine family. that was a lie. She came through for us like a champ, very involved in knowing us, and our horse of a dog. He was happy, and we were able to trust that he was in good hands. When we returned we were greeted by him and her filling us in with his vacation experience. I think he was probably happier there than he would've been hiking mountain trails.
Thank You soo much in being a beacon of light on our trip.

    Reassuring experience!

My husband and I were vacationing in Gatlinburg and wanted to be able to see some attractions that did not allow dogs (like the Aquarium). The first day we brought our 2 dogs to Barks and Recreation we were greeted by a lady who was polite and listened to our concerns and was reassuring. When we came back later that day she let us know how things went the first day. We brought our dogs back the next day for a shorter period. They both seemed happy to go back. Thank you for having such a convenient and friendly establishment that tourists can turn to!

    Great Experience!

Prior to leaving for the Smoky Mountains we discovered how very few trails were pet friendly. We debated about boarding at home but decided we really wanted our two sweet labs with us. We planned for two longs hikes where we could not bring our dogs and scheduled a stay at Barks and Recreation. We did an impromptu visit and Mike was happy to show us around. The facility is new, clean and the people are so great with the dogs. There was a nice deck and grass for them to run and play. Our black lab LOVES to roll in the grass and it was just perfect for them! They were very excited and pulled us to get back in for the second day. The prices are phenomenal and the staff as well!!

    My Furkid LOVED Them!

Took my husky here on two separate occasions. They were great. She was excited to return.

She had fun with the other dogs, and you can watch the pets online if you feel anxious.

Front desk help was wonderful. They loved my dog as much as I do.

Note: the groomer that comes in hacked my pup's haircut so bad we had to take her elsewhere to fix it.

Everything else was great. My pup Will be back (just not for a haircut).

    Great Experience!!!!!

Let me begin this review by letting everyone know that my two dogs are my children. My husband and I have been married for 16 years and we love love love our two babies. I am extremely protective of my babies and I spend every moment enjoying them as they make me laugh and smile. We are in town and wanted to spend a few hours out in downtown Gatlinburg so we looked into daycare. Needless to say, I was paranoid about leaving my kids with strangers. I had to keep talking myself out of canceling their reservation in advance. When we arrived we were welcomed by Samantha. She was such a sweetheart. After getting our puppies records in the computer, she spent some time asking questions about them. She listened to our concerns and made us very secure about leaving them. My German Shepherd has never been boarded before or in daycare so he was nervous. There were a bunch of dogs there but Samantha had all of them well taken care of and there was no chaos at all. When we left I called Samantha twice in the first hour and once each hour after that. She was always so pleasant and was never frustrated that I kept calling. She talked with me in detail each call and told me what they were both doing. My German Shepherd required a little more attention because he was nervous about the new people and environment and he is never away from me. Samantha was a pro! She took excellent care of them and also kept my mind at ease each time I called. The facility was super clean and did not smell like dog urine. You wouldn't even know that they had a bunch of dogs there, it was very clean. The kids were glad to see us when we got there and Samantha spent time talking with us about their visit. I couldn't have been happier! What a great experience and I highly recommend this facility!!!!!! If you are hesitant, don't be. I don't think anyone on this planet is more protective of their kids than I am and I definitely plan to take my babies back in the future. Thanks Samantha for an EXCELLENT experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to dachshunds, Littleman and Gracie. I was recently on vacation in Gatlinburg and used Barks and recreation for my doggy daycare. Samantha was WONDERFUL with them and all the other dogs she was taking care of. I am very curious over my dogs, but once I met Samantha I knew they would be well taken care of, and they were. I would highly recommend Barks and Recreation for anyones doggy daycare.

    One Tired Pup

We brought our boxer/lab mix Bo here for doggie daycare for two days while we were visiting the Gatlinburg area. He was so wore out after a long day of play on each day! Much better than keeping him cooped up in a crate all day in our camper or bringing him to a kennel for our whole trip. Because of this service we were able to bring him camping with us just like any other camping trip, but also enjoy the many sites and activities this area has to offer without feeling guilty! We will definitely be repeat customers if we are vacationing in the area again!

    Small but Nice

We had our Turbo there while we toured Gatlinburg for 5 hours and he had a good time. The place is small but well taken care of and hopefully they get enough business to be able to grow soon. Look at our Turbo on a couple of pictures they took.

    Nice place, nice people

Leaving my dog at a kennel is something I wouldn't normally consider, but at the urging of my husband, we stopped by this place on our way to go shopping. It was not very "kennel-like" at all, the building is a log cabin and the inside feels very home-like. I was very pleased with the facility and the staff, so I decided to use them.
When we arrived for pick up, our baby girl was playing ball outside with her new little friends. The lady was very nice and cared for the dogs, greatly. We will be taking our baby girl back here if we visit the area again.

    Fun times!

I visited Gatlinburg with my dogs and they stayed at Barks & Rec. for the weekend back in the winter, they had a great time and I was pleased with the staff and atmosphere. We recently were back in Gatlinburg and decided to use them again and found out they moved to a new location, close by, but alot nicer and modern looking. When I picked the girls up (both times) they were very happy and slept the whole way home. I will definately use them again and recommend them. :)

We chose not to use them

We were in Gatlinburg in July, 2011 with our mini schnauzer and checked this place out as an option since it was nearby. We stopped in at the end of the day. This is an older home and when we went in there were lots of dog crates sitting around, some with dirty looking toys or mats in them. (These could have been left by the dog owners). There was one lady there at the time who looked very hot and tired. She was polite and showed us around. There is a back room with an old dirty sofa that may house one or more dogs. All of the dogs were in the back yard in runs when we got there. They seemed fine, with about three dogs to a run, maybe 10-12 dogs were there, and they were playing. She said they are taken outside and brought back in throughout the day based on a schedule and the weather. This may be an OK place to leave your dog, depending on how particular you are. The lady seemed overworked and the place just didn't look clean. My husband made the comment..."well, they are dogs, not people", so I guess it's OK for some. Not my dog. I give 3 stars because they may very well be good caregivers, but the place needs some work and additional help.
