    Worth the wait!

My wife and I stopped for lunch on our way from northern AZ for a vacation in Palm Desert. It was unfortunately a Sunday and this place was packed! But it was worth the wait, the food was good, it's dog friendly on the patio, and if you have to wait a bit you can walk around the beautiful grounds until they call you on your cell to be seated.

    Glad we stopped.

We didn't realize how nice this restaurant would be and are very glad we stopped on our way home from Phoenix. The servers were great and our food was very good. Their patio is very nice and it was a very relaxing stop for us and our dog. It was nice to be able to also stock up on items from the Shield's store.

    Great road trip stop!

While this is a little bit off I10 it was well worth a stop! The food was fantastic, the dog friendly seating area was comfortable and spacious (especially handy when traveling with multiple pups), they brought the boys water bowls and kept them full. Live music and a beautiful garden surrounded us as we enjoyed our stop. If we come this way again we will stop in. Highly recommend.

    Dog-Friendly Patio Dining

A last minute road trip to Coachella Valley last week resulted in finding this little gem. From the outside, the date garden looks a bit run down (didn’t know at the time that the date garden has been there since the 1930’s!), but walk to the back patio to find an oasis surrounded by nice foliage and welcoming staff. The salmon sandwich was fresh and tasty and side fruit juicy. Very attentive staff eager to please customers. I always bring a water bowl, food bowl, and treats for my elderly Beagle so he was content. I will definitely visit Shield’sDate Garden again soon and include a garden walk.

Mediocre at best, rough with dog

I went this afternoon with my parents and my small pom-poodle cross who is very quiet and shy.
Although it was 75 degrees, no one offered my dog any water--I had to let him drink out of my glass. Worse, one of the waiters, at the end of the meal, without asking, reached down to, not exactly pet, but more manhandle my dog's very small throat-area. I know sometimes men especially pet dogs a bit too hard, but this was out of the park! My dog, who has never nipped at anyone in his life, nipped at this man, as he was obviously hurting him, trying to turn his face towards him.
I felt badly for scolding the dog, when it was the man who deserved being told off. He came back for more a little later on, but I physically turned my body away from him to protect the dog, got up and walked away. Gauche enough to just reach down and try to grab a dog without asking, but to try to force its head around? I was appalled.

Food wasn't any good, attentiveness to dogs and people lacking, and majorly lacking in basic dog-etiquette. Will not be back.

Good food, good service, good atmosphere

Another great find from bringfido.com! Today was a somewhat chilly day, so we weren't looking forward to eating outdoors with our 3 dogs, but on request a server quickly lit a heater for us. Problem solved. Another offered to bring our dogs water. They have a very plentiful hamburger patty for $4.95 that was plenty for our dogs to split. The table spacing was such that no other guests felt inconvenienced by our dogs. The food was enjoyable. They were enjoying average traffic that day, but the kitchen was slow, and the garden walk was closed due to weather, but dogs are allowed on the garden walk and they gave us a rain check for another day for the walk. Sounds like it is free with any purchase, and they wanted to make sure we get to go next time, because we did make a purchase today. All the employees we interacted with were friendly. and the grounds, restaurant, store, and restrooms were clean.
