A maximum of 4 animals can be carried on each aircraft, so you should call their Customer Service Team at (800) 223-5500 to guarantee Fido a spot on board. However, 2 animals can share a carrier if both are small and of the same species. Remember, mandatory quarantine of pets upon entry occurs in many countries and that it is the responsibility of the passenger to determine the requirements of the country being entered.
Pets in the Cabin
Unfortunately, animals are not accepted in the cabin on Icelandair flights.
Pets in Checked Baggage
Animals can travel in the special climate-controlled transport area of the cargo hold if the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 88 lbs (40 kg). Passengers must provide their own carrier for Fido. The fees for this service are split into 3 different zones: Zone 1 is within Europe and is $126; Zone 2 is between Iceland and North America and is $148; and Zone 3 is between Europe and North America and is $174.
For pets traveling in the hold, carriers must not exceed the dimensions of 36" L x 25" W x 28" H (91 cm x 63 cm x 71 cm). The carrier must be IATA-approved.
The following dog breeds are not accepted on Icelandair flights due to breathing issues: Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tso Ino and Dogo Argentino. One emotional support dog is welcome per passenger.
