If you’d like to bring your dog to/from Svalbard you need to apply for a permit from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. You can find this on their website. As some flights are limited to 2 pets, it is recommended that you book online as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. You can do this by contacting the Customer Service Team at (800) 357-4159.
Pets in the Cabin
Small cats or dogs can travel in the cabin on domestic flights in Norway (Svalbard excluded), Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Spain. Up to 2 pets are permitted to travel in the cabin on each flight offered by Norwegian, or up to 3 very small puppies or kittens can be transported in the same carrier. They must be at least 8 weeks old to travel. The combined weight of your pet and carrier cannot exceed 17 lbs (8 kg). The fee for transporting pets in the cabin is 38 - 55 GBP if you book it online, or 47 - 66 GBP if you book it at the airport.
Pets in Checked Baggage
Pets weighing over 17 lbs (8 kg) can be transported as checked baggage instead. Up to 2 cats or 2 dogs can travel in the same carrier if they're well acquainted. They must be at least 8 weeks old and weigh a maximum of 31 lbs (14 kg) per animal. A dog and cat are not permitted to travel in the same crate. Pets are accepted on flights to/from Svalbard (dogs only), within Schengen Cats, and within Norway, via Oslo Gardermoen, Bergen Flesland, and Trondheim Værnes. The fee for pets traveling as checked baggage is 55-70 GBP if you book it online, or 65-80 GBP if you book it at the airport.
Pets in Cargo
Pets being transported alone or those that exceed the maximum dimensions for travel as checked baggage can be transported as cargo with Norwegian Cargo. You can find out more information about this option by contacting them via email at email@example.com
For pets traveling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed 17" x 12" x 8" (43 cm x 31 cm x 20 cm). They recommend using a ‘Sherpa Bag’ made of flexible materials, but they do accept other carriers too. For pets traveling in the hold, carriers must not exceed 50" x 32" x 34" (125 cm x 81 cm x 86 cm). Carriers must be clearly marked with names and phone number. It must be clean, in good condition, and made be of a solid material that is fully waterproof. However, weld mesh carriers are not allowed. Wheels must be removed and doors must be secured. Additionally, carriers must be ventilated on 3 sides.
If your pet is a brachycephalic (snub-nosed) breed and you still wish to travel with Norwegian, you will be asked to sign a release form at check-in acknowledging the risks associated with air travel for your pet.
