Pets in the Cabin

Portugalia Airlines allows small cats and dogs to travel in the cabin on select flights. Pets and their carriers must not exceed 17 lbs (8 kg). For the duration of the flight, Fido should remain inside their carrier underneath the seat in front of you, not occupying a seat or moving around the cabin. Animals in the cabin should be clean, healthy, and odor-free. Pregnant females will not be allowed to travel. The fee for pets traveling domestically within Portugal is 35 EUR; between Europe and Morocco is 70 EUR; and on intercontinental flights is 150 EUR.

Pets in Checked Baggage

Portugalia Airlines allows pets in the hold, as long as there is enough space, and the aircraft and cabin are suitable. Pets and carriers with a combined weight under 70 lbs (32 kg) on flights to/from or stopping over in the USA, Hungary, France, and the Netherlands can travel in the hold. Animals that do not exceed 99 lbs (45 kg) on all other flights offered by Portugalia can travel in the hold. Pets should be provided with sufficient food and water for the entire trip, since no one will be able to feed them or provide water during flights or stopovers. Animals and carriers with a combined weight up to 70 lbs (32 kg) have fees of 70 EUR on domestic flights, 100 EUR on flights to Europe and Morocco, and 200 EUR on intercontinental flights. Animals and carriers with a combined weight between 70-99 lbs (32-45 kg) have fees of 130 EUR on domestic flights, 200 EUR on flights to Europe and Morocco, and 300 EUR on intercontinental flights.

Pets in Cargo

Pets that exceed the weight restrictions to travel as checked baggage, or those being transported alone, can be transported as cargo with TAP Air Portugal's Cargo Department. Animals and carriers with a combined weight between 70-154 lbs (45-70 kg) have fees of 160 EUR on domestic flights, 270 EUR on flights to Europe and Morocco, and 380 EUR on intercontinental flights; and animals and carriers with a combined weight between 154-220 lbs (70-100 kg) have fees of 190 EUR on domestic flights, 340 EUR on flights to Europe and Morocco, and 480 EUR on intercontinental flights.

Carrier Guidelines

For animals traveling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed 15" H x 12" W x 6" D (40 cm x 33 cm x 17 cm). For animals being transported in the hold, carriers must be hard-sided and provided by the passenger. Animals must be able to comfortably move around their carrier with ease. They must have proper ventilation, be safe and secure, and an absorbent material should cover the bottom.
