Entry Requirements
Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Hong Kong with your pet:
- People traveling to Hong Kong with a pet need to submit an application for a Special Permit (attached) and a permit fee.
- Pets must be microchipped with an AVID chip, or will be implanted with one upon arrival.
- Travelers with pets must obtain a health certificate within 14 days of travel that certifies that the animal is free from clinical signs of infectious or contagious disease, fit to travel, free of any quarantine restrictions from the country you are traveling from and is either not pregnant or less than 4 weeks pregnant if it is a female. The animal’s identification and microchip details must match and be included for acceptance into Hong Kong.
- A residence certificate needs to show that your pet has lived in the same place for at least 180 days and there are no reports of rabies in the area where you live before traveling to Hong Kong.
- A vaccination certificate stating that your pet has vaccinated at least 14 days and not more than 1 year before travel against rabies, canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis and canine parvovirus. Cats must be vaccinated against rabies, feline panleucopaenia (infectious enteritis) and feline respiratory disease complex (cat flu).
- Notify the Duty Officer of the Import & Export Section at least 24 hours before your arrival.
- The following breeds are not permitted to travel to Hong Kong: Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino and the Fila Braziliero and their mixed breeds.
- Pets must be at least 5 months old and less than 4 weeks pregnant to travel.
- Dog owners must obtain a Hong Kong Dog License upon arrival at the expense of the owner.
Quarantine Information
Pets traveling to Hong Kong do not need to be quarantined if they meet all the necessary requirements listed above.
