Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Puerto Rico with your pet:
  • Dogs and cats entering Puerto Rico do not need an import permit for interstate movement. However, they must be accompanied by a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian that states the animal did not arrive from a country quarantined for rabies.
  • Pets over 4 months old must have up-to-date rabies vaccinations within 6 months prior to travel and be accompanied by a certificate of vaccination.
  • Dogs and cats must also receive treatment for external parasites within 72 hours prior to entry with proof of treatment documented on the health certificate by the accredited veterinarian.
  • Pets must have official individual identification (microchip or a collar with metallic ID tag).

Quarantine Information

Pets traveling to Puerto Rico do not need to be quarantined if they meet all the necessary requirements listed above.
