It will do if you’re desperate

Super 8 by Wyndham Mt Vernon IL

This was far and away the worst hotel that we stayed in on our drive across country. The room smelled and was uncomfortable. The smoke alarm went off when I turned on hot water for a shower. The air conditioning never got comfortably cool. There is decent grass to walk dogs on one side of the hotel and the staff was super nice, but those are about the only redeeming qualities I observed.

Comfortable and good for dogs

La Quinta by Wyndham North Platte

This hotel was a great stop on our cross country drive with dogs. They have a fenced dog area for some off leash time, if your dogs are into that and people were nice about taking turns. If you prefer to walk dogs, there is ample grass and it’s really nice! Be warned that they have an excellent set of sprinklers that go off around 630 am (at least in September 2021) and soak everything. Walk earlier or after. Those things are powerful. Breakfast was great and the staff was super nice and welcoming. There were lots of canine guests on our hallway and everyone seemed to be a first class traveler.

Ahhhhmazzing

Residence Inn by Marriott Salt Lake City - Downtown

What a great stop on our cross country drive from west to east. This hotel in downtown salt lake is remarkably dog friendly and surrounded by abundant grass and parks. We absolutely loved it. The room was standard for a Residence Inn, comfortable and clean, well appointed. Parking was good, but be aware that if you have to park in the garage instead of the lot, there’s a low clearance. Larger SUVs or those traveling with a rooftop box may find they don’t fit (mine didn’t). Breakfast was great and the staff was super. Note: this would’ve been a five bone review but there’s no easy in and out entrance/exit for the dogs. They have to go through the lobby, which is fine except it was actually crowded in the morning with a lot of people. If you have an easily distracted dog, one who doesn’t do well with a bunch of other dogs (who were waiting with their people on the lobby) or need a quick out, they don’t seem to have it.

Good but opportunities for improvement

La Quinta by Wyndham Rapid City

The good: parking was great, there’s an exit right to the dog walking area, the rooms were nice and clean and exactly what I’ve come to expect from La Quinta. Breakfast was good. The not so good: there’s no grass for dog walking. They have a fenced in, faux grass area which is super nice until you see all the dog waste people haven’t picked up and didn’t look like the hotel had ever sprayed or cleaned it. We ended up walking the sidewalk trail to the next hotel which did have grass. Next time I would stay at the Residence Inn because they have grass, but this hotel was not bad.

Super stay, lots of grass

La Quinta by Wyndham Rochester Mayo Clinic Area South

A bit off the interstate and surrounded by restaurants that did both pick up and delivery. This was a really nice hotel for our trip west. Lots of good grass to walk in which may be owed to a few empty lots at this point. If those remain, this will continue to be good space for dogs. Good parking, typical La Quinta rooms- very nice and comfy. Good breakfast.

Great hotel for dog and their people

La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Spokane Valley

Absolutely typical La Quinta hotel with a great staff that makes it feel like home for a night. Decent dog walking space but not a lot of it. If you’re willing to venture farther, there are sidewalks that take you around the area. I walked early, so unclear whether traffic increases by time of day. In short- this is a nice hotel to stay in for a night with dogs, but the staff make it special.
