Clean, convenient to highway
Americas Best Value Inn Novato Marin SonomaRoom was a bit shabby but adequate. Major downside was the mild smell of old cigarette smoke. Next to train tracks and highway, but surprisingly little noise at night. Green area between hotel and road for the dog.

Nice folks
My Place Hotel - Carson City NVAmber was very helpful. The room was spacious, clean, and well outfitted. The only real downside was the proximity to the freeway, which was quiet most of the night, but got loud in the morning.

Decent place
University Plaza Waterfront HotelThe staff were friendly; the room was clean and spacious, and the internet connectivity was good. The breakfast offerings were modest but adequate. The only downside was the racket that started at 8 am when a crew started removing the hallway carpet.

Quiet place
Baymont by Wyndham TehachapiThe staff were friendly, the room was clean, and there are good spots to walk the dog behind the hotel and across the street. The only downsides were sketchy WiFi connectivity, almost no wireless reception in the room, and very limited channel options on TV.
