Pup Friendly with a Yappy Hour

Oxford Suites Redding

They are very pup friendly. They do charge $29/night pet fee but do gift you with a collapsible water bowl, cookie and bag. They have a nice grassy area for potty breaks (it could use lighting at night, however). They serve breakfast (which we left too early for) and have a happy hour which includes a delicious cocktail and snacks (potstickers, macaroni salad and veggie platter with dips). While we could not take our pup in the bar area, he was welcome in the adjoining lobby, the patio and pool area. We stayed here two separate times and would again in the future. There are several pup friendly restaurants nearby within walking distance!

Could be better

Windmill Suites Surprise Ascend Hotel Collection

When we arrived after a long drive, we were informed the pet friendly room that was booked was not available. I had even called the week prior to confirm. After a bit of working it through, the counter gal, gave us the same type of non-pet friendly room, but she allowed us our dog since he's hairless, senior and small. They do charge an additional $35/night pet fee which offers nothing extra. The pet area is not very good, small with no grass. During the 110 degree weather, I had to hunt around for grass so he would not burn his paws. Also no bags, but I always carry my own. On the plus side, the room was large and clean. They have an excellent breakfast which they allow you to take back to your room, so you don't have navigate what to do with your pup. They also have a vending machine full of ice cream!!

Horrible:!

Howard Johnson by Wyndham Sacramento Downtown

First off, it looks nothing like the photos!! We were charged $100 deposit off the top of the nightly and pet fee. Sketchy people were hanging out in the front parking lot. Our room was not very clean, and had earwigs crawling around in the bathroom. There was no soap, no wash cloths, not enough pillows and no "do not disturb" sign. I hunted down the maid and she just shrugged. We wanted ice, so again I hunted her down to locate the ice machine. After wandering around, I found it to be broken.

Our coffee maker only had decaf. I feel this room was never cleaned completely and completed??!! On top of it all, the TV did not work. I went the front desk and was helped by a very nice woman named Judy who said she had worked there for 9 years. She took the time to try to get the TV to work to no avail and offered us a "nicer" room with two TVs. We declined that night since it was late and we were tired after a 13 hour drive. The next day she offered again and we accepted the offered "upgrade."

All, I can say is it was bigger but still lacked a different array of pillows, coffee, etc. The refrigerator was not stable and fell over. The coffee maker did not work until I snooped around only to discover that it was not plugged into illegal and hazardous wall receptacle. (I have photos!)They are doing lots of noisy repairs around the place and potentially are not legal either. We were never showed the pet relief area, so not even sure it exists. There is also a large colony of feral cats living on the property. They charged a $25 pet fee but I am still in awe that they had the audacity to ask for a$100 deposit on top of our nightly room rate. Also, I heard, there is a breakfast. You can't bring your dog nor bring it back to your room. Anyway, never again!

No Bones!

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Stockton

On the same trip we stayed at the La Quinta in Sacramento. That was horrible but this was much worse! We used to stay here often about 10 years ago and it was always nice. This has gone all the way down the hill. We requested a pet-friendly ground level room. We got the 3rd floor. There is an elevator way down at the end of a very unsafe feeling building. They have a bell cart but it's only available during office hours. The place now has a fence round the property making it harder to navigate in and out. We were on the backside of the building. There we several sketchy people hanging out by the rooms smoking even though I have to sign a form saying it was a no smoking establishment. We could also smell pot smoke. Just while we were bringing our luggage, there many people coming and going to the same rooms. Our room did not have coffee or enough pillows.

There is supposedly a breakfast, but it can't be brought to the room nor can your dog hang out while you eat. We left quite early since it was impossible to sleep with all of the noise from the sketchy "guests." Some were hanging out still at 4:30am when we left. And again they had the audacity to ask for a $100 deposit on top of the room rate. There was also an older single woman with her pup. We helped her to her room which ended up on the third floor next to us. I felt very nervous for her. We will never stay at LA Quinta or any of the Wyndham properties again. We were once very loyal, but I did not feel safe taking my pet out to their pet area of leaving our car in the parking lot, let alone sleeping in the room.

Excellent! Treated our dog like royalty!

Twist

Definitely a five bone experience. We were there in April and it was a nice day, but not super warm outside. They turned on the heaters just for us (with dog we had to sit outside) and brought our pup a bowl of water. The food was delish and the cocktails were excellent. They checked on us often, but not so much to be annoying. Highly recommended with or without you fur baby!
