This is actually a marine sanctuary. If your dog chases shorebirds or harasses wildlife you can be fined $10,000. It’s a beautiful place but please respect this environmentally sensitive area. Birds nest in the surrounding shrubs and feed here during migration. These policies are enforced by local rangers and fines are handed out. Your dog can run off leash on Montara Beach to the north without harassing wildlife.
