Gross place, rude desk, surrounded by foxtail.
Motel 6 Marina CA - MontereyRooms look like they are never cleaned. Dog hair all over the place... garbage bits on the floor. Ick. Front desk person (one of them) extremely rude about online booking and made a huge case over how I was asking to bend rules since i made an extra night reservation online (that the other front desk person suggested i do when i was rushing off at 5am for a project) and this lady demanded i leave work to come back to motel (an hour away) to resign paperwork. Also, the entire “pet friendly” outdoor areas (which are a minefield of unscooped poos in all stages of decomposition ) are literally a solid field of foxtail. If you don’t know what this is, it is one of the main hazards to dogs in this area. If it gets in their fur, the muscle contractions can cause the bullet like seeds to work their way in like a porcupine quill and migrate fatally into your dogs spine, brain, organs. Extremely irresponsible for a “dog friendly” place to keep grounds like this.

Clean, friendly, relaxed roadside motel
San Simeon LodgeThis place exceeded our expectations. We stopped in after a long drive on a holiday weekend, with no plans on where we would end up. This place was very clean, comfortable, friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. It is a classic roadside motel but well kept, with all rooms looking out across highway 1 to the ocean, and a completely unexpected but unbeatable saturday night karaoke in the lounge that will please any fan of a lynchian roadhouse scene. We had a blast, and a great nights sleep, and would absolutely come back.
