Not the best option

Holiday Inn Express Calhoun South an IHG Hotel

I booked this Holiday Inn thinking it would be a safe bet for a 1 night stay while passing through town. Unfortunately I had many issues during my visit. The walls are very thin and other guests were being pretty noisy along with other dogs incessantly barking late at night and early in the morning. The room was not super clean and I had to wipe down the sink myself and skip the shower due to it not looking clean. There was also an issue with the thermostat which made it unable to be adjusted to a different temperature. This made the room stuffy, dry, and unbearably hot. The only reason I gave it a 2 rating instead of a 1 is because the manager did listen to the complaints and said she would look into the issues. She also did offer some points as compensation which I declined, but I appreciated that she made some effort to make things right. Overall though I would rather just drive through the night than stop and stay here again.

Good enough for a 1 night stay

Homewood Suites by Hilton Macon North

Convenient location for an overnight stay and pretty quiet for the pup. Layout of the room is spacious, but not super functional and could be cleaner. Staff was mostly friendly, but the breakfast smelled awful. I opted for some milk instead which ended up being spoiled.

Absolutely Fantastic

Celebration Hotel

I loved my stay here. They were extremely dog friendly and the location was so convenient. Nice and quiet despite being fully booked. Every single staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to be accommodating. There is a beautiful lake behind the hotel with a walking trail perfect for the dogs. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and my dog loved looking out from the balcony. The only downside is some dog rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors making it a little difficult with a dog, but the views more than make up for it. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Not the most dog friendly

Downtown Diner Celebration

Food was fine but, nothing special. Service was not the best. They allow dogs, but do not really act like they are welcome. They don't offer the dogs water or anything and they have to remain underneath your table the entire time you're there, so if you have a big dog it probably would be difficult to eat here.

Cute Waterfront and Shops Nearby

Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park

Small waterfront walkway, but very cute and we even saw some dolphins while visiying. There are swings all along the walkway that are shaded. There are also plenty of picnic tables if you want to bring a lunch. There are shops and restaurants nearby that can be walked to, so you can make the most out of your visit. There is a dog supply store nearby as well that you can take your dog in if you want to get them out of the sun for a minute. Parking is metered, but can accept credit card. Parking lot is small, so it may be hard to find a spot. It's about an hour outside of Hilton Head though if that's where you're staying, but it's such a cute little area if you make the most of your time here it's worth the drive.

Not for Anxious Pups, Perfect for Active Dogs

Coligny Beach Park

Parking lot is free, but not necessarily easy to find a spot but the walk to the beach is easy. There is a lot of nice swings, a fountain, and a foot shower as well as bathrooms at the entrance/exit of the beach. However this beach is EXTREMELY crowded and noisy. Not what I would consider a family beach as there were many party goers and many people blasting loud music. Lots of people biking, playing volleyball, etc. all over, so there is a lot of movement and activity going on here. If you have an anxious or skittish dog or just want to lay out and enjoy the scenery this is not the beach you want to go to or take the pups to. If you have an active dog that wants to run a lot and has a lot of energy this beach would be perfect for them.

Nice Quiet Beach

Burkes Beach

Easy and free parking lot with a nice walk to the beach. There is also a dog park near this beach that you can access from the same parking area. Beach is nice and quiet perfect for dogs that are a little more anxious. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Just Okay

Palmera Inn and Suites

Rooms are spacious and clean. The kitchen area and the direct walkout from the room make it easy for traveling with a dog. However, walls are very thin and it is very noisy. Despite not supposed to be leaving dogs unattended in your room, many people did causing dogs to bark constantly almost everyday and night we were there. There were also many people walking and letting dogs out off leash. Dogs are not allowed in the main lobby area at all and the staff could definitely be a little more friendly. Daily housekeeping is not included, so if you need towels you have to get them from the front desk and you have to take out your own trash. Outside trash cans were constantly overflowing causing trash to be blown around all over the parking lot. Also, be aware if you're booking your room on Bring Fido because not all the rooms available to book are pet friendly, I initially booked a loft room which was not pet friendly, but was luckily able to secure the correct room type last minute. Overall for the price and the amount of other options on Hilton Head I'd probably choose somewhere else, but if you need a place with last minute availability the Palmera would be okay enough.

Mostly great, but noisy

Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Columbus-Ohio State University OSU

Got a ground floor room perfect for letting the pup out quick, but it was pretty noisy. For a dog already in an unfamiliar location, the constant noise did cause some anxiety.
