Good BBQ in NJ

Mostly Smoked BBQ Inspired Eatery

My wife and I have eaten here twice, our pup only once. The meats are flavored very well. The pulled pork was properly cooked and had good flavor. My wife loved the chicken sandwich with Alabama sauce. The ribs had great flavor but were slightly over done. My wife's brisket sandwich was very good. The baked beans with burnt ends is top notch. The cole slaw was fine. The plate comes with pickles and pickled onions which were nicely made. My wife had the Mac and cheese which she said was good. The chicken wings were very well flavored but, were slightly over done. Still, I would order them again for the flavor. My only complaint was the lack of some traditional sides like collard greens and okra and while they have burnt ends in the baked beans, they are not a menu item by themselves. They were nice to the pup and offered water. I recommend a visit to this BBQ restaurant.

Closed

Langosta Lounge

This restaurant has closed. It is replaced by The Brick. I don't know their dog policy. Food and service is mediocre.

Dog Friendly

Max's Bar & Grill

They weren't serving outside today, but, did allow us to bring our pup indoors. The server immediately brought her a bowl of water and let us know they have a dog menu. Max's is a former old time hot dog stand that has grown into a bar and grill. The hot dogs are very good and crunchy. I had a chili dog and my wife had an onion dog. The pup enjoyed the pretzel with cheese dip. She was very comfortable in the restaurant and tried to greet all they came in. Highly recommend.

Nice Lunch

BRGR Bar

We stopped in Portsmouth to visit our son on our way back from Maine. After checking reviews and menus, we decided on the BRGR Bar. It has a nice outside dining area that allows dogs. The menu has a good selection of burgers - beef, bison, chicken, duck, vegan. There is also a build your own feature. I had a bison burger which was well-prepared and had great flavor. While they did not go out of their way for the pup, they were very tolerant of her. Highly recommend it.

Great Stay

Boothbay Harbor Inn

The hotel is in a great location if you are visiting Boothbay Harbor. There are only a couple of dog friendly rooms so book well before your trip. Our room was ground floor close to the grass walking area. The hotel is on the older side and could use some updatng, but the rooms were clean and comfortable. There is a mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and large TV. Plenty of outlets for charging electronics. The included breakfast was nice on two of the days and limited on our last day as they were getting ready to close for the season. The hotel is located near a walking bridge across the inlet directly to town which is very convenient. My mom was with us and she had a nice disability room in another building. I recommend this hotel for you and your pet.

Excellant

Brass Compass Cafe

When I first chose this site, there were no reviews. I picked it because of the write up on Bringfido and after reading on the website that the owner beat Bobby Flay with her King Club Sandwich. Dogs are allowed on the outside patio. My wife and I shared a King Club Sandwich and it was more than sufficient for our lunch. This is a three bread sandwich with the top section loaded with about one lobster. the bottom section had lettuce, tomato and bacon. It included a generous portion of french fries. Worth the stop. Will go back next time I am in the area.

Good Food & View

Taka Mediterranean Bar and Grill

We had five people and 2 dogs. We chose Taka because tey accept reservations, but, do not guanrantee outside dining. They claim you can dine indorrs with the dogs. They were not very accomodiation to us. We were seated at a table for four and they brought an extra chair. There was a table set up for six but they would not let s sit there. Later they split the table to up and sat a party of 2 at each table. The view of the harbor was nice and it ws not too hot for us or the dogs. They did not offer water bowls for the dogs, but, I always bring my own in case. The food was good, very flavorful and sufficient portions. There was a guitar player for entertainment. They need to work on accommodating their patrons, but I would go back.

Get there early

Robinson's Wharf

We had five people and 2 dogs. As you see everywhere, they were short of help so we waited over an hour for our table. We were told the food would also be slow coming out of the kitchen, but, that was not bad since we were now at the end of the night for them. They stop taking waitlist at different points to ensure they can close at a reasonable time so get there early to put your name on the waitlist. Parking is also difficult. They have a small lot in front and there is another lot about half a block away. There is a fish market where ou can get fresh fish. The food was well prepared and fresh. the menu is, of course, mostly seafood. They are accommodating to the dogs and brought out water. Great view of the harbor. Mosquitos chased us from lingering and getting dessert. I would try to make a stop here if you can.

Great

Lobster Landing

On our way back from visiting relatives in New England, we planned to stop here to visit with a friend for lunch. We got here early and I am glad we did. It is a very limited menu (5 items?). You place your order at the front and then find a place to sit (or vice versa). You are called when your order is ready. The lobster roll is excellent - 1/4 pound, not too much butter (they don't have cold rolls) and a grilled bun. The meat is very fresh and cooked right. The cole slaw is extra but worth the price. Since there is no table service, they are not very accommodating to the dog, but, the dog is welcomed. Make sure to bring water with you. View of the water is great with boats going in and out the whole time we were there. By the time we left, the line to order looked about half an hour long, the tables were full and the parking lot was packed. Great find from Bringfido.

It was clean

Motel 6 Portsmouth NH

The best thing we can say about the room was it was clean. The queen bed we reserved was not a true queen. It was bigger than a double, but, smaller than a queen. The room itself was very bare bones. Wooden floor, no closet, no drawers just cubby holes, no shampoo, no tissues, very small, bed was old and you rolled to the middle. There was sufficient place to walk the dog with a small grass area in the front. We did not go to the rear. Entry was only at the front door, so if you went out a door close to your room, you still had to come back in the front door. They required ID from everyone in your party (don't know if this is a state rule due to COVID). Hotel was quiet. Depending on how you GPS takes you to the hotel, it is tricky to enter the parking lot. Acceptable for the last minute reservation we needed and the price. Hope not to have to stay there again.

Very Dog Friendly

Kim Marie's Eat n Drink Away

The first time we ate at Kim Marie's was without our dog. But, on this 78F day in November, we decided to head to Asbury Park.About half the people walking around the boardwalk had dogs. When we first drove past Kim Marie's it looked very crowded with a line waiting for an outdoor table. We checked out several restaurants on and off the boardwalk and decided to head to Kim Marie's to wait. We had a half hour wait for an outdoor table and every table had at least one dog. Due to Covid, their menu is limited, but they still have a nice selection and a couple of items for dogs. I got the puled pork sandwich and my wife got the patty melt. Both were made well and tasted great and we had an ample amount of food. We did not get the dog a meal since she is a finicky eater when not at home. Throughout the meal, people kept showing up with their dogs and we had several conversations with other dog owners. I highly recommend this place when you are in Asbury Park with your dog(s).

Could be better

Hampton Inn & Suites North Conway

Had a standard king room which had plenty of room. Hotel was clean and staff friendly and accommodating. We were put on the second floor near the staircase which worked out very well. the dog waste can was overflowing s if not emptied in weeks. The designated dog walk area was near the picnic table which would not be the place I want to have a picnic. Noise level in the hotel was extremely high especially from above. It sounded like a herd of elephants was running around above us for hours on end. Very disturbing for the pup. At one point my wife had to call the front desk to stop the banging. The guests probably did not know they were disturbing those below, the hotel was poorly insulated for noise. Overall the stay was okay, but, the noise level unacceptable. With so many choices in the area, probably would not stay there again.

Shore Town Cafe

The Buttered Biscuit Cafe

We visited on a lovely fall day when we wanted to let the pooch on the beach. My wife had been to this cafe before and suggested it as a place we could bring the pup. Water was brought to the table for the dog immediately. All the staff were friendly and talked to our pet. We were there for lunch, but, the whole menu is available. I had a grilled shrimp wrap and my wife had the corned beef hash with a side biscuit. There is room between the tables for the several dogs that were there at the same time. Definitely recommend in-season or out of season.

Nice Outdoor Area

Seacoast Pizza & Pasta

We tried to go to Ogunquit, but, not knowing the lay of the land we could not find parking. Plus the restaurants were very crowded. Our hotel was right across from Seacoast Pizza so we went there for a casual dinner. they have a nice outdoor area with 4 tables in a grassy area. Our dog was happy to lay in the grass while we waited for our slices. You go inside to order and they bring it out when ready. It is a very busy restaurant, but they seem to have the system down pat. Not a long wait for a pretty good pizza. Being from NJ, I am always leery of pizza outside our area. This was good.

Great View

Looking Glass Restaurant

This restaurant was on the grounds of the hotel we stayed. The outdoor deck was large and the staff brought our dog water right away. The food was very good and we all enjoyed what we ordered. The view is stunning, I went back the next morning to take pictures. Prices are high even for this area, but, after driving several hours, we did not want to try to find a place that took us and the dog.

Good Choice

Beerworks

We tried to go to the Side Street Cafe, but, it was too crowded for us and the dog. Had passed this place the previous day and knew they allowed dogs on the outside patio so we headed here. They were very accommodating to us and our pup. Brought her water and gave a seat where she could watch people going by. It was time for a non-seafood dinner and they had a good selection of bar food. Food was good. Our dog does not like live bands and they had a band inside which began at the end of meal. We had to hightail it out of there. Would definitely go back.

Nice find

Sprague's Lobster

We noticed two lobster shacks across the street from each other on our way to Bar Harbor. We made a not to stop for lunch on our way home. We got to the two shacks and noticed a long line at the shack on one side (Red's) and a nice shack with a shorter line (Sprague's). We chose the shorter line and the wide open deck area that would afford our dog some room. Ordered a Lobster Dinner and a 1 1/4 lobster. The prices seemed reasonable for what we got. We were surprised that the dinner included steamed clams since it was not listed on the sign. The steamers were a bit sandy, but, very good and fresh. The lobsters were softies, which I usually do not like. The lobsters were sweet and cooked properly. The pup was happy to share the clams and lobster. We were happy not to have waited in a long line for the same food. We will definitely stop here again.

Nice find

Caffe Prego

Walked in for breakfast with our pup. Staff was friendly and brought her a nice bowl of water. Waffles were light and fluffy. French toast was nothing outstanding but good. Outdoor area has a nice amount of tables and heaters for those cool mornings and nights. Would like to try it for lunch and dinner next time we are in the area.

Poor Planning

The Fix

Based on the great reviews, we wanted to go here on our way to Maine. In all fairness, we did not know this was a city and thought the restaurant would be a little more quiet. That part would have been fine, except when we got to the restaurant at about 1pm for lunch, there was one outdoor table with people and the rest were available. When we went to sit down, we were told there would be a fifteen minute wait for an empty table. Apparently, they did not plan for the return of students to the local college (1 block away) and did not have sufficient staff to take care of the crowd. Whoever manages that restaurant needs some training. Went to a place further up the highway called 110 Grill which was great.

Nice Place

Testa's Restaurant

We came across Testa's for lunch. I remember seeing them on Bringfido so we went in. Very accommodating to us and our dog. My wife ordered iced tea expecting a normal black tea, but, it was a blend which gave her a slight allergic reaction after a sip. If other than regular black tea, they should be sure to let people know. No problem switching it to a coke. Food was good. While the burger looked like it was a frozen prepared burger, it was very tasty. Prices in this area are high, this restaurant was no exception. Would go back however.

Friendly Restaurant

Mama Dimatteos

My wife was looking for a place to get pasta since she had stomach issues and felt post would be best. Since it was raining, we needed a place that had an overhang so we could take the dog. I called and they saved a dog friendly table for us. When we arrived they had a bowl of water waiting at the table. Staff was friendly and waiter again asked if we needed water for the dog. The food was above average. The only bad part of the meal was the Pinot Grigio my wife ordered was not good. they took it off the bill. I recommend this restaurant for you and your pet.

Perfect Location

Linda Bean's Maine Kitchen and Topside Tavern

Nice restaurant right across the street from LL Bean. Outdoor area allows dogs. Staff was friendly, but, we had to ask for water for her. Food was very good and fairly priced. Would recommend to other dog owners.
