Classic old hotel

This was my first stay because I lived in NJ for fifty years and didn't need a hotel in this area. I stayed here on the drive from Florida to Massachusetts because I was always curious about this hotel. It is a clean, safe hotel that makes a special effort to accommodate dogs. It would be difficult to find a better stopping point in NJ.

A great location has improved

This location is out of the way on our trip to and from Florida, but is worth the effort. It has always been well maintained and comfortable. They are now improving it, with a new reception area and a new fitness center.

I've been at better

The hotel was nearly deserted, and felt unsafe. The wifi didn't work. The person at the desk said someone would come by, but never did. The little breakfast that was there was stale. The plumbing in the shower was difficult to operate. However, the room was clean and the mattress was comfortable.

I've stayed before

The rooms are clean and are larger than standard motel rooms.
There is a fenced, grassy area to walk a dog.
The breakfast has eggs and bacon as well as waffles and bagels.

The dog area is covered with cigarette butts. There should be ash trays for smokers.
This is my second stay and I haven't found a good place to have a light dinner. They need to research a more extensive list of nearby eateries. Those within one or two blocks aren't even good fast food.

I will go back

The room was clean and much larger than a standard motel room.
There was a sliding door to a grassy area to walk the dog.
The hotel is on a hill 50 or 100 feet above the neighboring buildings and has a spectacular view of the mountains, with benches to watch the sunset.
The breakfast included eggs and gravy and biscuits in addition to the standard waffles and bagels.
There is a very good Mexican restaurant a few hundred yards away, at the bottom of the hill.

There are cigarette butts all over the lawn - they should have ash trays for smokers.
They played Fox "news" in the breakfast room. I had to listen to a political sermon on abortion and women's rights by a bible-beating buffoon while eating breakfast. Most hotels play local news or weather stations that provide useful travel information, rather than playing politics.
