Perfect for one night

Residence Inn by Marriott Knoxville Cedar Bluff

This hotel is the perfect stop-over for those road-tripping to/from the northeast and southwest. We stayed overnight earlier this year on our first road trip with our dog. We liked it so much we booked it again for our second trip. Rooms were clean and they have a dog walk area with an outside entrance for late night potty breaks. This area definitely needs someone to clean up during the day because there were a lot of droppings that we could have stepped on at night if we didn’t have a flashlight with us. Bathrooms were spacious and they have a kitchenette with tile floor, perfect to set up your pet’s feeding station. The hotel is located in an area with several other Marriott hotels, so be sure to specify which one if you get a food delivery. We didn’t try the continental breakfast but their pantry was well stocked. Would definitely stay here again.

Definitely dog-friendly

Sleep Inn Staunton

We stayed overnight at the Sleep Inn in Staunton, VA on our way back home. Lobby was clean and check-in was quick. They have plenty of grassy areas for your pup to take care of business and they definitely keep this area clean (no “land mines” to avoid while walking your dog). The room was comfortable although the bathroom area felt a bit small. Towels were provided in a sealed bag and the rooms were quiet, didn’t hear any noise from four or two legged mammals when the door was closed.
The only reason I gave 4 bones instead of 5 was I requested a room near an outdoor entrance so I could take my dog out without bumping into other guests or staff as he can be skittish with strangers especially after a long car ride. While we were put near an outside entrance, it was right by the front lobby and (as I noticed the next morning) directly across from the staff laundry room. Thankfully we had no issues but I later found another outside entrance at the far end of the same wing in the stairwell that would have been a better location. We left before the breakfast room opened but they have a 24 hour coffee/tea station in the front lobby. There’s also a number of restaurants/fast food places nearby that you can go to or use a food delivery service. This place was great for our needs and would certainly book again.

Second one-night visit

Hotel Indigo Tuscaloosa Downtown an IHG Hotel

This was our second stay at the Hotel Indigo with our GSD. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating when I requested a room by the stairwell so we could walk our boy up and down without worry of him barking at strangers.
Room was just right for an overnight visit. The only downside was, just like our previous visit, the restaurant was not open. Plenty of places in town to grab a bite, but would have been more convenient to not have to leave the hotel. Regardless, this place is a definite thumbs up.
