I am a current 'dog' mom of two miniature schnauzers. My female is 14 (who I've had since 8 weeks old) and my male is 13 (who we adopted at the age of three). I have cared for other dogs including overnight sitting, walking and checking up/giving medications, since high school. Both of my babies have gone through cancer (cancer free now! Just a few more chemo treatments left!). I am very comfortable giving medications (especially since my little girl is smart about when she's receiving a pill. She is tough to convince to take medications) and understanding the side effects that medications do to our little ones. I will love and care for your babies as I do with my own. They are more than just pets, they are part of the family.

Great for short stay

Fairfield Inn by Marriott Joliet South

We were driving across the country and decided we wanted to stop for the night (around 2am). We have 2 miniature schnauzers with us as well.

As for the room, it was clean and the bed was super comfortable! There is also a mini fridge and microwave. Outside there is plenty of grass for pets to do their business but you'll need your own bags. There is also an indoor swimming pool. As for the gym, they have passes to the local YMCA. Breakfast is free, served from 6am-9am. They had scramble eggs, biscuits and gravy, waffles, bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, cereal and much more.

Overall this place was great for what we needed. Check out time is 12pm.

Fenced in!

El Estero Dog Park

This is the only fenced in off leash park in Monterey (there is another in seaside). It has its ups and downs.

There is a small dog section and big dog section. The big dog side has wood chips/ dirt, whereas the small dog section has dirt and weeds (fox tail weeds). Don't come in the summer on the small side if your pet has long hair, it's a pain In the butt to get out of their hair. I pull some of the weeds and throw them away when I'm there. But it would be nice if the weeds were gone.

As for socializing, it depends on the time of day. Lunch time seems to be busy. But I prefer going when no ones there.(everyone has their reasons: introverted, dog has behavioral issues and needs to stretch their legs because they don't have their own backyard to do so, health issues etc etc).

Sometimes dog bags are provided there. Allot of people take them home so they go quick.

Sometimes, especially during tourist session, there's no parking due to people using the parking spaces to explore Monterey (and there will be no one at the park). There are also a group of people who 'camp' there all the time in the parking lot and/or smoke. Other reviews said they are 'sketchy' people. They don't bother you at the park, but it sucks having to smell the smoke (just like anywhere else in the world where people smoke. So I leave because I can't be around the smell).

There is a water faucet there, but you'll need your own bowl for your pooch unless they know how to waterfall.
