Close to dog park

La Quinta by Wyndham Jacksonville Butler Blvd

We came here to go to Dogwood Park specifically and stayed 2 nights. The hotel is only 2 miles or 7 minutes from the park. There are plenty of restaurants a short drive away. It's in an area with a bunch of other hotels. The hotel and room were adequate: safe and comfortable. You can walk your dog around the outside. The service at the front desk wasn't the friendliest and there was no grab and go breakfast although there was a bucket of butter out which leads me to believe they offered breakfast not too long ago. And there was a sign on the door that said the pool was open limited hours, however, it was filthy with tree branches and dirt in it. They have no pet fee which is nice. It served the purpose but will not Wow anyone!

Good service, clean room

Wingate by Wyndham Brunswick

We stayed here over the holiday. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. There was a basic grab and go breakfast due to coronavirus and the pool was closed but that was okay. We heard other dogs at times and encountered a few being walked outside the hotel. We stayed here because of it's close location to st simons island beach which is dog friendly (off leash!). My dog absolutely loved it. This hotel is about 25 minutes from there and much cheaper than the closer hotels so I didn't mind the drive. It's a quiet area with homes nearby and a couple restaurants. Front desk is staffed 24 hours. I felt safe walking my dog at all hours.

Nice outdoor seating area for dogs

Mellow Mushroom

I've brought my pup here twice. It's nice because it's right downtown and has a large seating area out front with a wall around it so I felt like my dog was protected from human and canine passers-by. The server brought a bowl of water for the pup without my having to ask and the staff seemed genuinely dog friendly. There was a dog at another table but we were seated far enough from them that it didn't cause a distraction. We were able to take our time and have a nice relaxing meal (the pizza takes a little while but it's worth it). They have a decent menu, typical pizza place with something for everyone including salads. there isn't much on the menu I would feed my dog so definitely bring dog treats.

The bad reviews are true

At Play With Sparky

I read the reviews most of which are poor but I decided to give the place a chance anyway just in case people were exaggerating. They are not. This is not a good place and I'm sorry I left my dog there for a trial period. I didn't get an honest, dog loving vibe from the (very young) people working there. I got a sketch vibe like they were used to lying about stuff to appease would-be customers. I got a tour of the inside kennel area and it smelled terrible. The building looks old like it's probably difficult to clean those floors and it just smelled like urine. They said that their staff person that normally cleans had called out that day. Interesting. When I walked in the kennel, I saw some dogs that were obviously scared and sad. The dogs were supposed to be outside but they weren't, they were inside in cages and I asked if my dog would be outside for the duration of the visit and they said yes. I specifically said I didn't want him in a cage and I was told he wouldn't be. I left for what was supposed to be 2 hours and came back one hour later (Surprise!) and where was he? In a cage. The manager had trouble locating the 2 other staff members that were supposed to be watching the dogs. They walked in a few minutes later and it was obvious they were not where they were supposed to be. I was told by one staff that my dog was put in a cage because they wanted to "see how he would do in a cage". Another person told me he was put in a cage because he was "biting the fence". I was told he had separation anxiety, even though I had made it clear to them when I dropped him off in the first place because he's a puppy and I had never left him before. So WHY, if you determined that a puppy had separation anxiety, would you put him in a cage in a strange place and then LEAVE? Rather than staying with him and allowing him to play with the other dogs? The other dogs were not outside when I returned, either, so I think they are not giving the dogs the exercise they are claiming and the dogs are not being supervised properly. I'm glad I was only gone for an hour and I would NOT recommend anyone bring their dogs here. Another thing is that the outdoor area for small dogs is small, offers little shade and the dogs only stayed on the steps when they were let out. To the owner: be more transparent about what you are doing with the dogs during the day and hire more responsible people for staff. Update your facility and get some new flooring in there that can actually be cleaned properly so it doesn't smell so bad.

Clean and close to parking

Dog Park at Azalea Park

What Azalea dog park offers that others do not is cleanliness and a parking lot that is close by. From the photos I see on this website, it looks like this park has been updated since the photos were taken, because there is now a chain link fence and grass. There are two areas: one for large and one for small dogs. Both have minimal seating and water stations. The small dog park does not have any shade in the afternoon, unfortunately. They should plant another tree on that side. this is prob my preferred dog park in town, though because it's clean and new looking. There is some mud in the large dog area. We have gone before and there were zero other dogs during the week but more on the weekends. Have never seen it crowded.

Nice enough

French Broad River Dog Park

There are two fenced areas, one for bigger dogs and one for <25lbs. The big dog area is huge. There's a lot of mud right now and my dog left very muddy! Both areas have trees for shade and benches for sitting as well as fresh water stations. There is mulch on the ground and you will occasionally see some glass in the dirt since it was built on a landfill but it's old and smooth. the dog park is next to the river and there's a small area people will bring their dogs to cool off before or after. Weekends tend to be busy, weekday afternoons are less but there are still some dogs there. my dog loves it and people are pretty friendly, too. The dog park is a 5-10 min walk from the parking lot on a paved path.

Good for the price

Red Roof Inn Hilton Head Island

As one of the cheaper options on the island, this is not a luxury hotel but it served the purpose just fine. the location is great because it's in the heart of it and only a short drive to everything on the island including the beach. The room itself was small and could definitely use some updating but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. the air conditioner and shower worked well. the pool was really nice and was never crowded even on the weekend. There is no outrageous pet fee like some places. I chose to stay here so I could spend more on other things. Our room did not smell and our pup was perfectly comfortable. I would stay there again.

Plenty of outdoor seating with shade

Marley's Island Grille

Very easy to have the dog here. they have picnic tables near the trees (although they could be on flatter ground). You walk up to the window to place your order and then go pick it up yourself. It is very casual. They do have seafood but I would recommend sticking with the burgers etc. It's more of a lunch type place. fine for dogs, though. Plenty of places to sit and trees around for shade which really help in the afternoon.

Nice outdoor seating area

The Crazy Crab

They have a large deck with a bar and plenty of outdoor tables. We went at a busy time and still managed to get a table outside. My only complaint is that they seated us next to a door the waitstaff was constantly going in and out of with large trays and my dog kept getting in their way. The manager came over and asked us to move our dog closer to the table but he kept inching out so that was annoying. Had they chosen any other table to seat us at, it would not have been a problem.
