Could Be a Nice Place

The Conwell Inn

Let me start off by saying the staff, which I think might be Temple students, could not have been nicer. The room had nice dog bowls (that we didn’t but still), a toy and blanket for my pup. Nice touch. And for why I needed a hotel, the location--at least on the map--could not have been better. (I'm from South Jersey, so very familiar with Philadelphia. The area where Temple is looked like a war zone. So. Much. Trash.) And that's about where my glowing report ends. I have no idea when earlier reviewers stayed at the hotel and were able to give it such glowing marks. The parking, while convenient, is right next to the trash. We were put on the top floor even though we had a dog. The hallway had trash and food left in it…for hours/days. The room was reasonably clean but there’s no way I can be convinced that it was recently 'redone' as I was told. One of the curtain rods was, literally, falling off the wall and pulling off the wallpaper from the weight of the curtains.

The bathroom, while spacious, had very poor lighting and no counter space. During showers, I couldn't get the water to fully stop coming out of the tub faucet. So wasteful. There was paint peeling off the ceiling. The bathroom door looked like someone--or something--had been trying to claw their way out. The heat/air conditioning didn't work well. And maybe the worst was – esp given where were in the city – the security factor. Anyone could walk off the street into the lobby and up the stairs to enter any of the hallways. I did it several times and no one was in the lobby/at the desk to stop me and the hallway doors are unlocked/don’t require a hotel key. I could go on, but I think the picture is clear. I find it highly unlikely I’ll ever need to stay in that location again, but given it is on campus – and right across from the President’s office – I think there’s every reason to work on improvements.
