Great stay

Quality Inn Benson I-10 Exit 304

Clean, no carpet. Doors face out so you don't have to come across other dogs in the hallway or elevator. For us it was a good stay. No real potty areas, but parks nearby. Friendly helpful staff & nice breakfast.

Modern & Comfortable

Aloft Tulsa

The hotel itself is modern & clean. We waited over 10 minutes for someone at reception when we arrived, and the bartender tried to find the receptionist but could not. We were extremely tired from a long road trip and my dog was ready to get out of the car. Staff was nice & helpful after that. The room itself was comfortable. The floor was dirty (I was wiping up some sand that came out of my shoe and the towel was brown with dirt) but maybe that's how it is with dog-friendly rooms.

Bed was comfortable. There wasn't anything special for the dog like a water bowl or treats, but she made herself at home. A listing of TV channels would have been good because there was no "menu" option on the remote control, and like a door mat or dog towel for the floor would have been appropriate for a dog friendly room.

You have to ask the bartender for ice, no breakfast offered whatsoever (only coffee & some basic breakfast items to purchase), and the exterior had lots of dog feces left by pet owners, a dirty diaper, etc. The best thing for us is that there is a huge field across from the hotel with lots of space to walk & potty your dog. Since there are so many dogs staying at this hotel it was nice to have the space not to have to run into other dogs. Also not paying a pet fee is nice nice since my dog is cleaner than most people's children.

I wish people would pick up after their dogs. If you own a dog, it's your responsibility. There was a small pet relief area outside the hotel with bags & people still didn't pick up after their dogs! Absolutely disgusting, but that's everywhere - not just this hotel!

Terrible!

Westgate Community Dog Park

It takes a lot for me to give anything a one star, but I really expected more from this dog park. My dog didn't even want to go in and she has been on a long road trip with me. There is poop scattered everywhere, as well as burrs cigarette butts. Yes it is a nice big Park but it is not being maintained at all. The parking lot is filthy and there is trash scattered everywhere. I tried to take her into the adjoining Park and there for nothing but hazards even in the large grassy area where she could have run around on a long leash. In the adjoining park there were bandages, a huge happy dead bird, trash littered everywhere, broken glass everywhere, a rusty razor blade, and goodness knows what else. We turned right around. She didn't even want to chase the ball in the dog park presumably because there was so much poop. What a shame it is not maintained.

Great stop on the I-40 in NM before TX state line

Russells Truck & Travel Center

We happened to stop at this rest stop last minute, expecting poop filled areas like every other rest stop from the West Coast, east. Astonishingly, they have fenced off all grassy areas with clear signs not to let your dog poo there, but to take them to the dog run.
Of course not everybody follows this, but there is a lovely little fenced dog run with yet a larger fenced area for playing. There's also a huge clean parking lot to have a rest if needed. So after my dog had a poo there was lots of space to walk around.
I wish all rest stops did this, as it was getting really unpleasant to stop and avoid walking much because of all the poo but still get my dog to potty.
We are putting this one on the map anytime we are passing through the I-40 to or from Texas or New Mexico.
