Decent Stay
Best Western Plus Vancouver Mall Dr Hotel & SuitesClean, comfortable. Lots of grassy median area in the parking lot. But soundproofing is a little inadequate. We were there on an off night, so it wasn’t too bad.
Excellent BW PLUS
Best Western Plus Mill Creek InnSuper clean, super comfy, and super pet friendly (all rooms). Personal choices - would rather the room not carpeted, would rather an in house breakfast instead of Denny’s (right next door) vouchers. But hey, they accepted 2 BIG dogs and it was a larger 2Q room with a good layout (no bathroom squeeze factor). Clean, quiet, comfy beds/4 good pillows each, ample hot water, quiet heat/ac system, fridge that actually was cold, microwave that actually heated our pet food (we home cook for our dogs and these last 2 features are essential. Sufficient grassy medians surrounding the hotel for even the fussiest dog. Pet friendly Santiam Brewery (great place too) an easy 5 minute drive.
Great Place
Santiam BrewingQuality beer, extensive menu (our .food selections were excellent) friendly and attentive staff, and resonable prices. The covered and heated patio was perfect for our 2 big dogs. It has several picnic tables spaced apart along the side of the building with several entry/exit spots making it easy ingress/egress and keeping other dogs reasonably distanced.
$$ Pet Fee but it went to Cleaning
Best Western Plus Castle Rock$40 pet fee but the room was spotless. Good location off of I25 with no road noise. Average breakfast but the omlets seemed to be made with real eggs (I think). Good brewery restaurant within easy walk plus multiple fast food options nearby.
Average Room
Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Denver North - Thornton an IHG HotelWe booked a 2Q “Suite” which turned out to be only slightly larger than a standard room. OK, not as much room for the two large dogs, but the room was very clean, had comfortable beds, hot water, and was quiet.
Too much snow to comment about the outdoor facilities for the dogs. An Outback and an Applebees both within a 5 minute drive, some other choices as well. Expected a better breakfast than the now common powdered eggs but at least there was sausage. I notched it down a bone because of the $25/pet fee, but alas the pet fees are going up everywhere.
Upper End of a BW+
Best Western Plus Red River InnWe usually break at Amarillo because there are more hotel and dining options. This time everything in Amarillo that we would even consider staying at was way overpriced from base room cost to pet fees. With trepidation we pushed on to Clarendon. What a pleasant surprise! Not sure if our room was recently renovated, but it seemed so and the rest of the hotel was in good shape as well. There is a wide grassy area around the periphery of the hotel parking lot, not scenic, but completely adequate for doggie business. There are 7 restaurants in Clarendon and we thought we were going to have to settle for pizza or the drive-in. But the number One restaurant (according to TA) is Jinda, a Thai place. Close by and crazy good food (see TA). Average breakfast at the hotel, but the overall experience was way better than any place we’ve ever crashed at in Amarillo.
Extra bone for the dog parks
Best Western Plus High Country InnClean but simple rooms (no fridge/microwave). Exterior room entry and outside the room parking was re-appreciated unloading dog plus human gear. Dog parks (large and small dogs) on the premises while small are above and beyond what most places have. Decent restaurant right next door. Covid measures in place to bring a simplified breakfast back to your room or the to-go bag option. Will be a “destination” stopping point for us on our frequent travel between WA and TX. Second stay here and ditto on the above review. Third stay here on 1/26/22. Ditto again on the review.
Decent Accomodations
Clover Island InnNice location and convenient restaurant at the inn as well as others within walking distance. Property is showing some wear, but beds were comfy, shower hot, and room clean. Treats upon arrival and a small grassy area for the dog. Good value; we would stay here again.
Our third stay here last night. (1/25/21) and we overheard that the facility might be turned into apartments pending a vote in February. That explains why they’re not updating. A shame, with some sprucing up I might give it another bone.
Basic Room
Comfort Inn Mount Shasta AreaA little worn, but clean, comfortable beds, and hot water. Not much but fast food in the area. Only a cold breakfast in the morning. Just a place to crash.
Worth It
Hampton Inn & Suites BarstowSelected this more pricey location because of the reviews concerning safety at one of other hotels in Barstow. No regrets, we had a great suite with lots of room for the two large dogs. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and friendly staff, average hot breakfast. I would give it 5 bones if there was a better area for relieving the dogs and better dining options, besides fast food, in the area, the latter not being their fault.
Back to being a decent place, Maybe not
Best Western Plus Rio Grande InnI had to drop a bone for our third revisit. Urine odor and sink faucet would not work on the hot water side. Didn’t report either as they were nice enough to bring a microwave to our room when I’d realized there wasn’t one There already. Ironically, we had the same room as our original bad experience. Don’t accept room 120! And next time I’ll remember to ask to see the room first.
We’ve revisited this place twice now after avoiding it due a bad experience (room with an overwhelming, make your eyes water, dog smell) a couple of years ago. i’m happy to report no more issues. Rooms were clean and comfortable both times. (I did ask to inspect the rooms before committing.)
No real amenities for the dog, just asphalt and rock, but we like its location with a close drive to Old Town where we can walk the dog and enjoy human amenities as well. There’s also an option to walk to a good, perhaps pricey, wine bar/restaurant.
This time, due to covid, we ordered dinner from the on-site restaurant and we were blown away. Great food!
So this place is solidly back on out list as a travel stop.
Just OK (again, but about to drop a bone)
Fairfield Inn & Suites Amarillo AirportHave stayed here before and it is starting to show its wear. Convenient travel stop for our situation, nothing mote. Stayed again, because it is a convenient travel stop. Getting worse, will look for a new spot in Amarillo. Three bath towels (nbd), one hand towel, no wash clothes. Thought it was an oversight and requested linens from the front desk. They said they were out! I know covid has disrupted the supply chain, but a big box membership store still has hotel whites for sale. Really??? Door to bathroom could barely open as it scraped against the floor. Obvious signs (wall not fully repaired) of a leak at some point.
Then the worst coffee ever from the breakfast buffet. Heck, forget about a new location, we’re looking into an RV (ugh).
Typical La Quinta
La Quinta by Wyndham Boise AirportTypical La Quinta with the standard amenities. Small grassy walking area in back. So-so location with no eateries conveniently nearby, but several pizza chains deliver there.
Poor Location
La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Fort CollinsNot far from I-25, but in a seedy area. (We moved our car to the front for the overnight rather than leave it at the entrance closest to our room.) Huge place and difficult to find the correct entrance for our room which was as far from any possible entrance as you could get. Ugh for hauling in all the gear. Small weed and rock strewn area for pets. Room was fairly clean and comfortable. But a word of caution, both our large dogs figured out how to open the room door on their own. The lever merely had to be pushed down with no pulling action and the door would swing open. We had to have the deadbolt thrown at all times. If one person was out of the room, the other couldn’t do anything besides monitor the door or wait to unlock the deadbolt for the other’s return. Would stay here again, but only in a very big pinch.
Exceptionally dog friendly
Obertal InnTreats and a big welcome for our dog. Dogs could be left unattended in room. Great price for the location, right in town, but this also means no grassy pet area on the premises.
No elevators, so if you have a dog who can’t do stairs, ask for a ground floor room. I believe all rooms are pet friendly.
Great Place
Best Western Plus Kelly Inn & SuitesA short drive to the downtown restaurants, but well worth it for the abundance of grassy walking areas.
Clean, quiet, comfortable, larger room with nice MT feel decor. The standard pre-covid type hot breakfast (not a to go bag) was a plus. Have stayed at the BW Clocktower a couple of times, it’s closer to the downtown action, but will switch to this location for future stays.
Great Spot
Accomplice Beer CompanyIf you like trains and beer, check out this brew pub. Awesome fun watching the trains roll in from the dog friendly patio. Beers were excellent! Some have won awards from the Great Am Beer Fest. Only tried the beer pretzel which was excellent with their dipping sauce. A return destination for us for sure.
Better than expected
La Quinta Inn by Wyndham CheyenneSome of the reviews made me a bit hesitant to book this location (train noise) but we found it adequate for our travel needs. Small room, few amenities, but clean, comfortable, and hot shower. We didn’t hear too much train noise, but we were on the far side of the building from the tracks.
Side note - if you like trains and beer, check out Accomplice Brewery with their dog friendly patio.
Bare bones but OK
Taos Valley LodgeMinimum amenities, (one bath, hand, and washcloth per person), but clean and comfortable enough. Friendly staff.
Rocks, not grass. Good for a quick overnight.
Would Stay Again
Big Horn LodgeSelected this spot over the LQ which we have been happy with only because of the price. Just traveling through and prices were jacked up for some reason (marathon? SUV event???). Not so here. With trepidation I booked and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and cleanliness. Yes, not modern decor and a tiny bathroom, but these days I’m just looking for immaculate. Fit the bill, this will be our go-to from now on when we pass through Moab.
Not bad, but needs updating
Best Western Plus Kennewick InnWe’ve stayed at the LaQ in Kennewick in the past, but decided to pay a little more for the BW. Not really and the LaQ should be finishing up on their renovations soon.
