Off-Leash Field in the Woods

Middlesex Fells Reservation

This is a beautiful natural area surrounded by trees. Dogs can run freely in the Sheepfold Dog Park area and there is tons of space. It's also conveniently located amidst the Middlesex Fells Reservation, so whenever you're done, you can leash your dog and take off on one of the many hiking trails. Being a woodsy area, make sure you bring bug repellent. There are two small lots for parking.

Note: The Sheepfold Dog Park is off-leash; however, as soon as you head down one of the trails, your dog must be leashed.

There are a couple things, though, that keep this from being a 5-bone review. Parking in the designated lots is a bit limited, especially on a weekend afternoon, and parking is strictly prohibited on the main road. (There are people patrolling, so watch out.)

Additionally, the dog park is not in an enclosed fenced area, so sometimes dogs run off and get dangerously close to the parking lot. So long as you keep an eye out on your pup, you should be fine.

Last but not least, because it's such a large area, it can be hard to keep a vigilant watch on your pup. The vast majority of owners are incredibly responsible, but there are occasions when someone will neglect watching their dog, which can lead to small fights or dogs running off - all the normal risks a dog park poses, of course. Personally, I have never seen anything absolutely terrible happen here, but we have had other dogs scrape our pup up on occasion. Just be aware.

Overall, though, this park is fantastic, and I highly recommend it, especially if you enjoy natural areas and hiking with your dog!
