Good place
Pier Blue Inn Old Saybrook - EssexGood place to stay. Senior couple and a cocker spaniel. Pleasant, clean dog relieving area right behind the motel (well supplied with poop mitts & disposal bin) and a spacious, mowed meadow to play frisbee in just beyond that. Room & bathroom basic and clean, quiet. No sign of the hygiene & odor problems mentioned in previous review. Rather charming locally made wooden furniture. Convenient parking immediately in front of room. This was an off-season stay, so do not know about AC, but heat was fine. Proprietor had helpful suggestions about local dining. Drawbacks: Electricity outlet not effectively holding plugs.
Great beach stroll with dog
Hammonasset Beach State ParkVery nice, long beach with great sunsets over the water. This is only open seasonally to dogs. Responsible dog owners and well behaved, happy dogs. Benches located along beach make it a great place to take family members who may not want to walk as far as you. This is a gem open to the public in an area where much of the coast is privately owned. We visited on the warmest day of the winter & the beach was not crowded (perhaps because there are multiple entry points with parking). Parking abundant and very convenient to beach.
