Nice stay in Carmel

Stilwell Hotel

We wanted to get out of the heat of the Sacramento Valley for a few days and take our pup to the coast. Carmel is known as one of the dog friendliest towns In California so we started looking in that area. We settled on the Carmel Lodge for a few of reasons, they are dog friendly, proximity to all that is Carmel, and they offer a decent size room for the money. Staying in Carmel mid-summer is never inexpensive, but waiting to the last minute afforded us a pretty decent rate based upon midweek occupancy.

The lodge is nothing fancy. The staff was all nice. There is ample parking and selection of rooms. We booked a Premium King and asked for an upstairs room. We stayed in Room 39, which is on the second floor. The rooms are kind of cool as they have split doors. You can close the bottom and open the top to cool the room. The windows are all original crank open style. With the windows and half door open it cools off nicely. Pre-COVID they offered a lite breakfast, but now they have breakfast bars, a basket of fruit, and coffee available in the office. It certainly was all we needed.

The lodge is approximately 10 blocks from Carmel Beach. We walked it multiple times with our dog. It’s a nice walk through Ocean Street and past all of the cute shops. The beach is well worth it, especially if you take your pup. This is the only beach around that allows dogs off leash I am told. A majority of the local restaurants allow dogs for patio/outdoor dining. I recommend reservations at any of the restaurants nearby.

This lodge is situated in a good location for Carmel activities, the lodge is older but clean and well kept. If you are looking to take a trip to the area and stay in Carmel, especially with a dog, consider the Carmel Lodge.
