A Nice, Spacious Hot, Musty, Buggy Room

MainStay Suites Williamsburg I-64

We chose this hotel because it was a pet friendly and affordable option on the Bring Fido website. It's a large property with plenty of parking in close proximity to the Colonial Williamsburg historical center. The security access door by our room in the middle of the building never worked during our 3 day stay despite bringing it to the attention the front desk clerks. Our room was spacious, hot and musty even with the a/c running on the coldest setting for hours. The kitchen was large and had a few dishes and glasses to use at the two swat dinette set. There was a two burner electric cooktop, 4 cupcoffee maker, and a nice and cold refrigerator. Unfortunately the a/c wall unit had been removed rendering the kitchen unpleasantly warm and best suited for cold breakfasts and for serving and storing your own pre-prepared foods. The bathroom had bugs along the floor crease along the toilet/tub wall which we killed and flushed down the toilet and the towels while standard hotel sized, were remarkably soft and fluffy.

The bathroom sink was in the entry hall and had spiders on it amongst our toiletries after "lights out", when they were seen in the glow of the nite light we bring with us to illuminate dark hotel bathrooms. They were swished with panic into the sink bowl and rinsed down w the drain with vigorous streams of water. There were aggressive mosquitoes in the lush lawn area at the back of the hotel where the dog play area was and the parking lot and hotel grounds appeared to suffer from a lack of timely maintenance. There pool and public rooms were all blocked from use due to COVID-19 restrictions. The lobby has an assortment of snack foods and soft drinks for purchase and is easily the only inviting area of this building. There must've be 30+ rooms here and maybe a dozen cars in the parking lot at nite. How we got stuck in a hot room with a king size bed with poor a/c when we'd wanted a two double bed room will always be a mystery to my son and I. At least our dog was happy when she found a cool place to rest at in that room!

A Nice Place To Stay

Hotel Indigo Cleveland Downtown, an IHG Hotel

A nice big king size bed with fantastic linens that included a fluffy mattress-topper, multiple sheets between the feather comforter and the honeycomb weave bedspread made for heavenly resting for all 3 of us. Our Daisy dog also approved of the easy to access sofa, though the marble bathroom floor was chilly and the towels while thick could've done with dryer sheets to make them fluffy rather than scratchy. Hot water is plentiful in the sink and shower and the bathroom lights are very very bright. Bringing your own 5 watt nite light would serve well for the bathroom as it's right inside the front door and easily the darkest part of the room.

In this internet age there's no folder of what else the hotel offers or what's to do surrounding it, but that's merely a matter of opinion. The window has a manual double screen option for privacy and darkness as the room overlooks the small courtyard and faces offices across the way from it. The wardrobe closet has plenty of hangers, an ironing board and iron, a safe and a mini bar fridge that we turned on to use. The chest of drawers was spacious with 3 drawers with a desk area fitted with a nice chair and lamp. There's plenty of USP ports and power outlets at the desk, and either side of the bed. The TV was great and offered a variety of local and cable programming as well as allowing users to stream content from their own device with a generated code. While the hotel advertises WIFI, the hotel receipt we received states it's only available in the meeting rooms, when I found I needed a WIFI link. Luckily my son has unlimited wifi and let me use his. There's a gift shop/mini mart at the front of the hotel by the lounge that has basic travel essentials with water and a selection of other refreshments and snacks. There's a restaurant that provides breakfast for dine-in and to-go meals, but our schedule didn't allow for us to dine there during our visit.

The hotel is down the block and across the street from where the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team plays, so it's surrounded by parking structures and pay lots for for sporting and entertainment events as well as the plentiful restaurants and pubs surrounding the hotel. As we'd pre-paid our hotel reservation we used their parking service but there are other lesser priced options for pet happy travelers. In all, we enjoyed our stay there and hope that plenty of other people do too. If you're a sound sleeper you won't hear the occasional noisy hotel guests and their barky pets passing in the hall, but to me that's a matter of opinion and I didn't want to get thrown out for telling those people to STFU because that would've created a greater racket that would've lasted that much longer and no one wants that during evening hours. The car valets were all helpful for the garage service the hotel offers, as were the front desk personnel.
