Nice room, nice hotel, friendly staff
Clarion Inn Sheffield Muscle ShoalsThe staff was very friendly and eager to please. The room was clean, though it was a patio room with a sliding glass door and since our stay was in mid December, and being anywhere within three feet of that door was chilly! Overall the hotel is large and rambling and has a huge two story very business-like lobby, which gives the hotel it a bit of an impersonal feel - which is quite the opposite of how you are treated by the staff.
Nice property with great big rooms
Candlewood Suites Texarkana an IHG HotelFriendly staff. Big, clean room. Big room... actually, really big room, which was very comfortable. The coffee supplies in the room went sadly unused, as the coffeemaker in the room was MIA. The coffee machine in the hospitality room/"store" was on the fritz, and the selection of cold drinks, snacks, and microwave-ready food was pretty slim... not up to Candlewood Suites norm. If there was a 3.5 bone rating, that's what we would give it. If they addressed this issues listed, it would get an easy five bones.
Really nice hotel, but the slowest elevator ever
La Quinta by Wyndham Abilene MallClean, well furnished rooms; very good breakfast, close to lots of great restaurants - some within walking distance. Friendly staff, too. The only negative comment we had was that the elevator arrives slow, close the door slow, moves between floors slow, and then opens the door slow. It's just slow. But with all the other plusses of this hotel, a slow elevator can be overlooked!
Nice well kept hotel; rooms on the small side
Best Western Yuma Mall Hotel & SuitesThis is a nice motel with friendly staff. It's very spread out, in an architecturally interesting way. Clean and well kept; they were renovating some of the walkway tile while we were there so you know they're willing to put money into the property. Our only complaint is the room was on the small side. Two adults, one cat, two laptop bags, and one suitcase left very little space for a litter box. That cost the rating one bone, otherwise it would have got a five.
Old, tired, and in an iffy neighborhood
La Quinta by Wyndham Las Cruces Organ MountainThe room was a decent size, the beds were comfortable, and the room was clean... but that's the end of the good news. The furniture in the room was tired and a bit worn, as was the whole hotel. It's just aging, and could use an infusion of money and TLC. The staff was neither friendly nor unfriendly; they were just kind of there doing a job, which is the atmosphere of the whole place. It's there, doing a job. The one thing that is not the hotels fault but is definitely worth noting is that while there are much worse neighborhoods, the neighborhood this hotel is in is a bit iffy... which may explain why ownership has not invested much in maintaining the property. We debated between giving it two and three bones, and while two bones may seem harsh it definitely didn't earn a three.
