Great location, hard on older dogs

Monterey Tides

It appeared that the place was undergoing some maintenance in the elevator areas, but no signage or alternative was given...some people tried the elevator for hours on end, to no avail. The hotel itself overall was nice and maintained well enough. It's right on the beach with waves crashing so close you could hear nothing else! It was fantastic and the oceanfront room was worth the upgrade.

The issue with the elevators was that they were not working, despite staff saying they were. No effort or workarounds were given to let guests know, and the stairs are not clearly marked. The stairs were somewhat out of the way and difficult to traverse for our senior dogs. They were slick, narrow, and steep, especially for those guests on the fourth floor making the hike with dogs. Pets could easily fall through the openings in the concrete stairs all the way down if not monitored.

There were no clearly marked signs for dog use areas or potty spots, or trash cans to dispose waste in...be aware that you'll be hiking up and down the stairs for each potty trip to the parking lot. You have to hunt to find sand or a bush...so overall, the hotel grounds were pretty scarce on dog amenities. At least they allowed us to stay. None of the other guests seemed to mind vacationing amongst us dog people. A fantastic location for the responsible dog owner. If you are one of the lazy or inattentive kind, this place may not be for you.
